Not as good in what way?

My suggestion is to turn off the flash and use another source of light.

If that's the issue.

Using a point n shoot type camera sometimes is better on AUTO mode. Look for a MACRO mode as well. Try your pictures with and without flash. But it sounds like you need to practice more with the camera. You can also try a small tri-pod.

good ol' Malcom has a light box, that captures available lighting and makes for good exposures. Rather than me telling you, watch his YouTube video on it. It works well with me.

Also, use your scanner/printer, that can get high resolution on, say, coins - just use a colored, but better, a neutral backing
behind the object.

What do you mean by "not as good"? Color, focus? Do you do any processing after the shot. I shoot in RAW and process in Photoshop. Most closeups benefit from a high pass filter set to less than 8px. on a separate layer.
If you need to shoot with out any special equipment I'd go outside and use the sun usually at noon to limit shadowing. Tripod and camera on time delay.
Also there is a lot more to quality than MP's. Lenses for example.

I should add if anyone wants to try sharpening with hi pass filter the complete way is with the image in view to go to the layer drop down and click "background copy" then go to the filter drop down toolbar scroll down to "other" and pick " hi pass". In the dialog box that shows up try less than 8PX, click ok then go left to the layer pallet and at the top where it says "normal" click the drop down and choose "overlay".
You can turn the new layer on and off to see if you like the result then flatten image in the layer toolbar.

Maybe if you used a big mirror, or maybe have someone else take pictures of your booty? :laughing7:

I know I wasn't the only person thinking that!

Macro lens setting helps. Rather than a light box I put a piece of 1/4" thick white closed-cell foam in front of my flash as a diffuser.

Buzz, it's not so much about MP, as it is lighting
and the size of the sensor chip in the camera. Small
compact digital camera use a ton of software inside
to account for the small sensor size, but there's only
so much data it can gather in each pixel.

This site [below] has some superb tutorials that will make any
photographer, beginner or pro, better at getting the
image they desire.

Cambridge in Colour - Photography Tutorials & Learning Community

If indoors, DO NOT use fluorescent lighting (ie: CFL lamps)
unless your camera has a Color Temp. setting that specifies
the correct color temp. A flash used in a macro setting, if
directed at the subject, will often leave a "bloom" or bad spot
of light on the image.

Bouncing the flash off of a piece of white foam, or even
a wall will get rid of that bloom. Better yet, take the pic
in sunlight.

I enjoy "fixing" pics for others, so if you have a shot or two
that need some help feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to
get them right for you.

Hi There-

I bought a Veho discovery Digital microscope. 60 dollars approx.

Heres a couple of shots
Ring e.jpg Button.jpg

Makes great shots of coins etc. AT x20 or x400 magnification. Also takes time lapse video.
Great fun for the money- makes cataloging stuff really easy.
Same button before electrolysis
button (2).jpg
Use it all the time. Highly recommended!
