Re: brass acorn

Just had a look at your strings Chimey. Whatever else we bust your chops about, your Memorial Day Post is great, best to your kids. Really! I spent a good chunk of my life shooting at folks I didn't know, who were wearing different colored uniforms than mine. The linguist daughter is most likely pretty safe ( I studied Russian at DLI [Defense Language Institute] Monterey, Ca), but the infantry son has to be a constant source of worry! Depending on how long he's been in, I might have been his Basic Drill Sergeant (South Carolina)! I was in Special Ops units in both the Navy and the Army all through the eighties and into the early nineties. My mom used to go crazy when I got that phone call in the middle of the night and had to deploy on two-hour notice (wife didn't like it much either, that's why we divorced)!

Now, let's get back to business! 1000+ posts to this thread! AHOY!

Re: brass acorn

You are right! It is a stupid post! Many people enjoy being stupid sometimes! Being serious 24/7 is also a very bad waste of creative juices! Humor (in all forms) let's the creative juices flow(God that sounds nasty).

And it all started getting stupid because the international brain trust, that is Treasurenet.com, let this little brass nut get the best of them, and they (we, I include myself in this) had to let off steam! During all this stupidity, I will be willing to bet that most people who were posting stupid funny things, were the people who spent the most time researching the damn thing (everybody chime in on this please! Pun intended).

Most intelligent people aren't savants! When you spend so much time poring over books and webpages, you need a release! Silliness is a great release!

So remember, before shaking your finger at anybody, look at yourself! I think this post needs a sign at the entrance: "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Sense of Humor, No Service!"

You got that right. We have too many know-it-alls, wannabes and braggers. And very close to personal insults. Must be an inferiority complex.

I know. I know. With so many people spending so much time on this one little piece of brass, I can't fathom it is kicking our butts!

As much as I would like to move on, I can't! I feel like an alchoholic, "I can quit this thread ANY TIME I WANT!" Then an hour later I'm back. Just look at poor dg39! He keeps swearing off this thread, and then, just like me, he keeps coming back! This must be the Devil's Acorn!

Don't believe me? Check out both of them and see the resemblance?

Re: brass acorn

Only problem with that is the rod in the middle comes up with the spikes! A little inconvenient. Maybe if there was room INSIDE the acorn? Screw off the top, put the acorn inside......naaaah don't think so.

Keep at it.

Chagy,

It's a little far fetched, but it may be possible. The squirrel lure started as a joke (I think), but because nobody has been able to find anything similar, it's been joke time at the OK corral! I have searched four web search engines, to antiques photo books, antique camping gear websites, antique brass sites, you get my point!

That's why this thread has gone on for sooooooo long. Nobody wants to quit until we break the code! Even with all the joking.

Oh, and the posts with the engravings are just the same pictures with photoshopped text.

Enjoy-Mike

Doc
Yes, it is as bad as the pounce pot idea. Horses, or any other animal can eat acorns without someone shelling them for them. They are quite bitter to humans, I've eaten them myself, without boiling, esp. like u said, the red oaks.

Re: brass acorn

Swr....your right we gotta have data and what bothers me is there's only the data in the pic...nothing real to go on...Doc your not real...knowing the weight of this thing would be great...GOOD LUCK! Cypress and all you dedicated people....I just don't feel the need to continue with this acorn...just too much B.S. and when we think seriously about figuring it out and think you've figured it out Doc comes out of the ship's hull and add's his Philosophy's.....You all have fun with it ....Cypress Thanks!
