I like the squirrel anchor idea. When they pull, the two spikes on the bottom dig in. The harder they pull, the better the anchor digs in.

After locking myself in the research vault for 33-1/3 hours. I am reporting back to this illustrious panel that I have found indisputable proof. Here is the answer to our puzzle. If the original photograph had been taken from the other side, we would not have wasted all our time and effort. I would like to thank Jack for his help , if doc would have paid more attention to him when they were younger this fiasco would not have taken place. At least that is what Jack emailed me.
The object in question can be found on Page 381 of the 1908 Montgomery-Ward Catalogue.

I had 322 catalogues to look through. Thats why it took 33 1/3 hours to find it. I'll never get that rocket pack to working at this rate. Oh, doc, I have designed a new heat shield. It keeps you from getting the red.oh, got to go , check back later.
