Could it be something designed to rappel a rope or cable over a limb or onto a tower or rooftop , so it "grabs" and holds the rope up there ,until you climb up?? I don't know, just a thought. Or to toss a rope line across a river or crater....to get your line over there???
I think Gypsy was right. This is who I think dropped it. I am happy I could help ;D

Oh I am so sorry for trying to add a little humor. I didn't realize you were the only one allowed to do that. Please forgive me. By the way I have been trying to figure this out since it was posted...

Lucky, I thought the squirrel girl idea was funny. Must be an award winning movie.

I like the squirrel anchor idea. When they pull, the two spikes on the bottom dig in. The harder they pull, the better the anchor digs in.

Re: brass acorn

After locking myself in the research vault for 33-1/3 hours. I am reporting back to this illustrious panel that I have found indisputable proof. Here is the answer to our puzzle. If the original photograph had been taken from the other side, we would not have wasted all our time and effort. I would like to thank Jack for his help , if doc would have paid more attention to him when they were younger this fiasco would not have taken place. At least that is what Jack emailed me.
The object in question can be found on Page 381 of the 1908 Montgomery-Ward Catalogue.

Thank You, Thank You, please sit down. I dont deserve your applause. just send me a donation for the Museum.

Re: brass acorn

Great job dg39. At least some pompous col. Saunders looking windbag got his jollies out of all of us. I really hope we made his day.

Notice the worried look on that mouse? It's because she dropped the stick to spring the trap. You can see it in the corner of the picture. Jack
OKAY PEOPLE.......MAY I BE THE FIRST TO SAY IT.......someone was right......TINPAN THIS should have been the next challenge.....That's what it was.....congrates to the winner!

Re: brass acorn

There seems to be a problem...what started out as a dang acorn has now had the time to grow to a full size Oak.Are we done now? :o

Re: brass acorn

I had 322 catalogues to look through. Thats why it took 33 1/3 hours to find it. I'll never get that rocket pack to working at this rate. Oh, doc, I have designed a new heat shield. It keeps you from getting the red.oh, got to go , check back later. ::)
