British Tax Collector's homesite, ca. 1720- Spanish silver

:hello: Josh and I stumbled onto a very early dwelling this weekend while out on the prowl looking for a new site. We obtained permission from the owners and detected the place pretty hard Saturday, Sunday, and today and came away with some nice finds. Josh certainly had the better finds between the two of us and will post his later this evening or in the morning. I was pleased to find a clipped quarter of a Carolus IV half reale. Josh also found spanish and a VERY cool colonial button

Since he had the better finds, we agreed that he will post the pictures of the house.. and it's a beautiful early brick home. It was settled in 1720 by a Captain Finn, who records show was a tax collector for England. Here a few photos from a cemetery near the home. Josh and I DON'T hunt in cemeteries, just thought you all might enjoy a few scenery shots from the property. The majority of our finds came near the house itself and the surrounding fields.

Here's an early brass gun attachment, which part I'm not sure, but looks hand-engraved

Very nice Golf. I especially am partial to the Cannon Corps button due to the fact that I found one in beautiful shape near Susquehanna State Park Williamsport in 1990.

A lot of potential at that old place . Wonder if the Kings bean counter lost any of the revenue :dontknow: buttons and silver finds are a great start . Hard to say what is still waiting ,but knowing you guy's ...you'll find it !! d aWg

I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is (or was) a good stash of colonial $ on the property :o

Another great hunt by the dynamic duo! I am really surprised that you guys could get the OK from the property owner. You guys must have a great approach when asking permission! I would think that property owner has been approached so many times in the past that NO! would be the first thing out of his mouth :laughing7:

'Very Early Flower Button'

100% British 17th century :notworthy:

Re: British Tax Collector's homesite, ca. 1720- Spanish silver

Jeff, I love the cut silver! The artillery button is something we haven't dug here in PA. Finn's was a thriving place in early America!

How many Colonial silvers have you dug this year? 50? :laughing9: :headbang:

wow! Awesome finds!!!

That musket escutcheon plate is beautiful! I can see the roman numerals engraved in it...what are they!? Obviously a regimental number, or sure looks like it to me!

Right Kyle, something we as a group did not find but when you were 5 years old and I was your age right now, your vocabulary was just out of the "GOO GOO, GOO GOO" stage ,I dug one on the Williamsport Levee. Back when Kevin and I were after Seateds and Barbers.I had my trusty Garrett Master Hunter 7.

Like that "Widow's Mite" clipped silver Jeff. Is there no end to Colonial & CW relics out there? Great job. HH, Quindy.
