Buckleboy, Hill Billy, and myself went for a walk back in time Sunday in an area that Hill Billy was kind enough to take us to so we could see if maybe something was there. First off I heard a loud POP noise and seen my coil mount had broken and it was swinging in the breeze. Yes Whites strikes again! ;D Hey its 10 years old so Im not to upset about it. We went to a local gas station and I got some duct tape and was back in business! Yet another use for duct tape see pictures below. I got a few wheats and Hill Billy got a silver charm and then went to his next spot. When I say we were in the middle of no where that is an understatement! Miles back into the woods up one hill then down another to a site where he had a "good" feeling about. I hunted for sometime with notta hit and he yells for me to come to the top of the hill and I did with my duct taped machine and got a hit that was loud and read 88-90 on the XLT. I thought it would be a beer can until I pinpointed it and could tell it was coin sized and about 4 inches. For us XLT users that will get the heart beating fast. I dug and could not believe what I had! A large cent! My eyes are so bad I could not see the date or details but Buckleboy quickly did a field analysis and said 1828 large cent. I could not believe it! All the way out there in the middle of the woods was a large penny that has been waiting for me to dig it up for God only knows how many years. I have found a few in the past but this is the first one from Kentucky. I can now mark that one off my list.

Oh the mad wife. Hillbilly and BB kept me out to late and when I got home she had a fit. I got a picture of the coin, broken machine, and tried to get a picture of her while mad but she gave me that look. All you guys that have been in trouble know the "look" Im talking about. I told her there was no film in the camera so she lightened up. (the camera is digital) :D HB and BB you two are on her you know what list! BB I think you have got your last plate of biscuits and gravy from her. Yes she was that mad!

Thanks HB for a wonderful day and the invite down. It was great just to get out and to get a LC made it even better. Once again thanks!

Nice looking Large Cent, nice job on the field repairs for the lower rod assembly. Duct tape saves the day again.

Im an auto technician who owns thousand upon thousands of dollars worth of tools and would be lost with out my duct tape! ;D

ahhh but, find her a nice ring or a piece of jewelry and you will be outta the dog house...diamonds are a girls best friend... ;D

I was expecting a buckle, but a Large Cent! Wow! :o Looks like I'm going to have to put a roll of duct tape into my detecting box...haven't needed any yet but from your little problem and its solution I'm not going to take any chances by going without it! Happy hunting guys.

Congrats on the copper

Sorry about the detector...

Mine is at the whites detector doctors as we speak, I am using one of kenpa's units, mine went crazy so silly me I whacked the coil on a tree to see if it would stop, and in the 20deg. weather the mount snapped.. so now I have 2 problems...

glad you got the copper before the 100 mph tape gave out...by the way doesn't duct tape have metal in it?..he he

Great story, sorry about the MD but at least you were still able to MD. As far as your wife goes....yes, I know the "look", ask Civil, he's seen it many times, LOL, knows it well :D :D Watch out, the next time she just might be throwing the biscuits, LOL :D Congrats on the LC..HH

Great find!!!! Great story..........well.........except for the wife. Just find her a nice ring and she'll be kicking you out the door with your machine!!!

I know the 88-90 "ping" from the XLT......gets your heart going.

After a hunt a few years ago where I used two sticks and some tape, I wisely invested in another rod, another armpiece, and some of the "bolts" that hold the armpiece on. They have been extremely valuable in keeping me on the hunt. Just last week the armpiece broke on one of my XLT's, luckily a short walk back to the truck where I had the spare put me back in service quickly. Check out one of my three posts with the Virginia Buttons that I found, one of them was on the hunt after I was able to repair my machine.
As far as the rod, get the longer "tallman" rod. The extra reach can help you cover more ground more quickly (if needed) and if you are actually taller than normal, it will help your back. Then you can keep the factory rod for a spare or get a larger or smaller head for it to be able to switch out if needed.

:D :D :D :D :D Whew, my tummy hurts from laughing at this story! Hope you guys are out of the dog house. :D

No use. He's vertically challenged. His biggest searchcoil for the XLT is wider than he is tall. :D

Tennessee Joe

i have some liquid nails and a welding machine for that

An interesting thing happened this morning. Me and the wife got up to go to work and she took out a frozen package of sausage to thaw out and told me we were having biscuits and gravy tonight when we get home. In the past she would tell me to call Buckleboy so he could join in on the feast. She didnt mention inviting him this morning. I was to scared to ask. When shes not looking I will fix you a plate and set them on the front steps. I will send you a text message when ready. I hope you can beat my red neck neighbors dog to them. If I hear a man and a dog fighting tonight I will know you both got here at the same time. I will put my money on BB.

LMAO....afraid those biscuits would have been hitting you upside the head if you asked? Hope BB wins the dog fight.

Congrats on the Copper

Bummer on the Detector.

Where is the Pic of the Mad Wife.

P.O.'d Women Make Great Subjects for Pictures ;)

If all MD manufacturers made thier shafts out of carbon fiber with a aluminum coil mount this would not happen.I broke my shaft 5 years ago an found a carbon fiber tube the same size and replaced it.along with the coil mount piece.i used a bimini top tube mount made out of aluminum.it will never break or bend.

My's wife is going through menopause, she doesn't bother with a list. She' always mad.

Kinda

Give us a nice repost after you clean up that beauty!! cant wait to see!!!

May your hunt be happy

Congrats on the LC! Is that not an older Eagle Spectrum? They did a firmware upgrade several years ago that made it even better. Where's the picture of the mad wife, I can use my imagination or experience though, LOL. You could always put her on the buy, sell or trade forum, LOL. HH, Mike

It is the older firmware version. Im told there is no way to update unless you buy a new machine ::) Im sure if you could get your hands on a late model chip it would work. I wonder how much better it is?
