RPG- it weighs 0.9 oz. sounds hollow except for what ever is moving around inside and that sounds very hard and kind of heavy. Breezie made me think maybe pills but i would think they would have dissolved it was 10 inches deep when i found it. Charlie P said maybe lead or needles could be. Pretty sure if it was lipstick tube I would be able to see where it would come apart and its very tight NO gap. Plus lipstick wold stick to the sides would it?

Still unsure on this one. I will try and find some of my lipstick tubes and measure them.

By the way, sorry your thread on todays finds got hijacked. Those are some very good finds. I'm looking forward to having a hunt like that soon. :)

Thanks for your help.
That is just crazy whats going on with that thread. I'm new and not sure if i should just delete the thread or let them go at it. Just wish i could figure out what this thing is.

Let it go. If anyone gets upset over something this insignificant it's up to them to not read the posts.

Let it go, maybe throw them some knives. ;D That sort of thing happens every so often, one of the mods may come along and remove the off topic posts or maybe they will do it themselves. I hate to see that happen with a newcomer's post. Pretty interesting finds anyway, I'd keep pounding that site you have. Could be a valuable find or more neat relics waiting. :icon_thumright:

I'm still curious on your brass tube item. Hopefully you will be able to open it without damaging it. I know it must be stuck pretty tight but that "cap" must unscrew, too many similar items have been found over the years.

And, Welcome to T-Net.

I have a 1956 tractor and a 1987 sailboat. I can tell you metal parts seem to be able to become one part after a period of time - even if they started out as two. Nuts fuse to bolts to the point it is easier to shear the bolt in half before the nut budges. And that is without even being buried for 50 years. Gold is stable, most other metals corrode and gall up.

It originally came apart just above the rings. The inside sleeve is a tight fit.

Yep they are still going crazy!!!!! I don't judge people. I'm just glad were on top of the food chain.

So this thing is not coming apart without smashing it. I am going to take it to a gun dealer ???

Maybe soak the bottom in straight lemon juice to lose the dirt and crud to see if there's a seem where pieces separate. It might even free it up if it's meant to twist off.

PS.... Don't worry about the crazy posts, it's just a common part of Winter. I think there's more that get a kick out or it than upset anyway.

Other than years of corrosion, another reason it is not opening easily is because of vacuum. It has probably found a better seal than Tupperware! LOL If you drill a tiny hole in the top, that will release the vacuum, and then it may untwist. Breezie

What exactly would taking it to a gun dealer do for you? Is your gun dealer also an expert in women's accessories from the early 20th century? It is just stuck, hell it may be stuck to the point where the average person would destroy it trying to open it. Try heating just the tip in boiling water until the whole tube is to hot to hold without gloves and then try to pull it apart, sometimes all you need is a little heat.

Heating it up and attempting to twist it off is not going to work.... Here are some closer pics IT IS ALL ONE PEICE

I can't wait to see the inside when/if you cut it. I do have 2 questions though, if it is one solid piece, how did the items get on the inside? And what would be the purpose of a sealed item with unobtainable objects on the inside? :dontknow: Breezie

Regardless of my thoughts on this item I tried to rethink it. It struck me as a little odd that a potential lipstick tube would turn up in a site that looks to be that of a trapper or someone similar. Anyone have any other ideas on what might resemble this item that would be in such a camp?

I found this small pic of a "cigar needle". Thoughts?

Lipstick tube. I found one just like it... lemme go find my box of junk finds and see if I can dig it out. It doesn't unscrew, it pulls apart. There's no possible way for it to be a bullet. It is somewhat bullet shaped, but the similarities end there. A bullet cartridge would have a projectile and a case, not all one piece (which I believe this is 2 pieces stuck together...you can't see the seam where the outer sleeve slides down over the inner piece and meets above the top ring).
