out in pinion,arizona, I had 16 year old 8th graders in my reading class...
I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO DO ANYTHING TO IMPROVE THIS CONDITION... I was told the school had a reading program, approved by the government{ feds? state? reservation?}
and I was to use this canned reading program, not deviate one bit.
I had the children bringing in what ever they wanted to read...'cept porno...and would walk around, read over their shoulder, and quiz them on the spot to read to me, or define a word...I had these lost children attempting to read, wanting to learn, and the administration squished it flat in a heartbeat.
sent me 200 miles down the road to learn how to teach their reading program{that did not work. imo}

SHOW ME...is too old school for some

Jersey,

You need to calm down, your views aren't the only ones out there, and you're as demeaning to us as you acuse us of being to you. the road goes both ways, and while you defend you're side, you denigrate the other....both sides lose, and no-one learns, I hope that you get over the felling of being the only advocate, and try and listen to what other's say, I think some of us have a little more experience in why we think like we do, we're not always right, but also we're far from being wrong as much as you say we are....Gary

Gary,

Who exactly did I denigrate or demean?

Read any one of my statements. I am defending eduactors from the attack that has been launched against them. Plain and simple.

Yes, many of you have very valid and meaningful points to make. This particular thread does not show me that. I do not recall ever being afforded the whole "the road goes both ways" attitutde that you are advocating. I am still waiting for the day someone from the other side tells me that I have a good point and that they "hear what I am saying". So forgive me for not sitting quietly in the corner while hateful and disgusting comments are being launched needlessly at educators.

Ben have you ever heard the term "if you sleep with dogs you"ll wake up with fleas?" My point is the degradation,the weakening of our youths' morality is the reason our country is in the state it is in.Our children's morals have been compromised because of liberal teachers in public school and agendas being pushed even as young as kindergarten such as gay marriage,gay lifestyles, which should never enter into " academics." Biblical teachings are a no no unless you have the money to shell out for private Christian based schools and subjects that should be left discussed between parents and children such as lifestyle choices are being mainstreamed into our school systems when parents are clearly against it so yes,liberal teachers and professors are being allowed to lead our youth into a declination.Promiscuity is at an all time high right now so kids are learning it from somewhere.

This post has made it crystal clear what the real problem is that you seem to have with modern society. It most certainly has nothing to do with liberal teachers. Using them as a scapegoat for your own religious hangups is patently unfair.

ben, you may have reason to have such strong sentiments for the profession as I once did. It just isn't that way anymore as far as I'm concerned. The unions have ruined many facets of American life and the schools, in my opinion, is one of them. Yes, there are good teachers, but I was speaking of the talents of a high school student that I'd consider educated had I not experienced her lack of knowledge of common, everyday math. Someone failed her so I have to look at who is responsible and who is getting paid for teaching these people. Yes, it is disgusting.

Have you ever considered that maybe the kid's parents didnt offer her a strong backround in math? Maybe the advent of cell phone technology has made the kid numb to doing math in her head and her "norm" is to use technology as a crutch? Maybe the kid just isnt very bright?

No, instead of considering such things, you automatically blame the teacher and acuse her of not contributing to the world - all without knowing the grades the kid got in math or the types of classes she wasd enrolled in.

In my eyes, you do not get a pass for these reasons.

I have no religious " hang ups" as you call it JB and I think personal lifestyle choices for others have no affect on ME personally but I do take offense at teachers trying to shove their agendas down innocent kids' throats while their parents are helpless to stop it and I stand by that.

My son and I went to a high school football game where they served sandwiches, sodas and such at the snack bar that was manned by high school students. I got a $4 tri-tip sandwich and a $1.50 soda. The girl waiting on me took out her handheld calculator and added it up and told me it would be $5.50. With my eyes rolling in my head I handed her a 10 dollar bill. Again she used the calculator to inform me I was going to get $4.50 in change. Then my son ordered the same thing, a sandwich and a soda. Again she pulled out the calculator and told him that it would be $5.50. My son also handed her a 10 dollar bill and as she was using the calculator to figure out his change I remarked, "I bet you get $4.50". After reaching her calculation she looked at me and said excitedly, "You're right!". She has no clue what 25 + 25 is. I bet her math teacher is a well paid union worker with tenure and will retire with a huge retirement package worth far more than he/she contributed to the world.

Was she a blonde? Lol. You know there is actually a medical reason for blonde ditziness. It's been proven that blue eyed bonds females are more likely to have ADD. I should know I have 3 girls that fit this description and 1 stepdaughter. Ages 11 thru 18. Thank goodness for pharmaceuticals!

Ben, I think all kids are bright. The difference is the adults in their lives. Educators see the kids way more hours a day than their parents. The failure of our education system are heavily the fault of the system, unions, bad teachers, corrupt school systems, political agendas and poor parenting...

All very valid issues facing public education. IMO, poor parenting, political agendas, and a kid's environment being the biggest concerns.

WHAT does one have to do with the other?

Granted, I watched her performance and also found it to be distasteful. But to somehow imply that people like her exist because of teachers and professors is just rediculous and quite frankly, a bit unfair. I am getting tired of the judgement that you guys constantly pass around with broad generalizations (ie. against teachers, professors, liberals, etc).

I am very thankful I had several liberal high school teachers and mostly liberal college professors. So very thankful to be able to see the world from different perspectives than previous commenters.

I had liberal teachers in high school and college, didn't agree with their liberal views then either.

I also don't think socialists and communists should be teaching our kids and yes that is what they were, they were self proclaimed...

amazing you don't like this...as it is exactly what you expose in your signature.:dontknow:

My signature has nothing to do with socialism or communism both of which are enemies of what we were founded on.

I didn't say they couldn't live here, I said they should not be teaching our children.

Just like you can't be a law enforcement officer if you are a drug user.

I do get a kick out of this. The progressives needed something to cling to so they chose this name,, Because they they do believe in changing, constant changing as a matter of fact.. But they completely ignore the other meanings!

3 through 5 are completely foreign ideas to them.. They have the need to control freedom, not allow it.

Okay, I have an honest question for all the good liberal folks out there...Most of us that are an average of sixty or more years of age can remember a time when American culture and lifestyle were different...A lot fewer divorces.. A lot less fatherless children...A lot less substance abuse...A lot less violent crime...A lot less uneducated graduates...A lot less teen pregnancies...A lot less teens with STDs...A lot less popular music that glorifies the dis-respecting of women and the killing of police officers...A lot less murder\ kidnapping of young people, all these things are up per capita...Those with the wisdom to recognize these things realize I can go and on about the ways American society is continually deteriorating, I really feel for the young folks alive today who have no idea what we used to have and what they are missing, and I cringe for them at how ignorant some of their comments sound to those of us old enough to know better.

(I do realize the good old days weren't perfect okay? Terrible things like the subjugation of Women and the Jim Crow laws, etc. were indeed hideous, but those situations and others have improved and are still being rightfully fought for today).

So here is my question to liberals...What is the reason for the all the inescapable examples of our moral, societal, and intellectual decay, what has caused it if not the liberal education system combined with the mainstream media liberal bias which together produce the elections of liberal politicians, and enactment of liberal laws, which bring more societal decay? Please don't try to debunk the idea that our cultural and societal morals are decaying, (respectfully) it will make you appear as though you don't know what is going on around you...Just wondering what the liberal reasoning is for all this happening.

It's all been down hill since the Beetles and Elvis I guess? I'm sorry you blame us for all these societal issues, but I think you're really making a terrible inference here.

Fletch, in that case where do you place the blame?
