Coinnut (George)and i hit a couple of sites today , not only were we looking out for deer hunters but the wind was so strong you had to watchout for falling tree branches( and some were pretty big to ).i had the lucky coil today and found a very nice complete colonial shoe buckle ( it still has its brass pin so the chape and tongue move freely ) it gave off a great tone and was surprisingly shallow ( about 2 1/2 inches deep) i thought for sure it was going to be a beer can . a little later had another great tone at about 5 inches (love those solid 84 vdi's at that depth ) and out popped up was the 1819 large cent copper ( looks like someone was carving on the back of this one) and a few buttons round out the day. hey thanks for looking and hurry up and get out there people.

Dan

Nice to get a working complete shoe buckle, got a few, one complete working one earlier this fall, but last week, got one with complete frame, but only the center brass pin there, first one like that where it was complete but missing the tongue and chafe. The 1819 cleaned up good, I still think those years were good cooper, so many in that era come out pretty good.

Completely awesome shoe buckle...I have to post a pic of mine. I was floored when I found this as I'm sure you were as well. That large cent looks nice, to bad someone scabbed it up a bit.

No I found this up in Cape Cod. My aunt lives on Colonial land, her neighbors home was built in the early 1700's. I passed over this shoe buckle probally a dozen times. It was near a metal fence and pegged it a false signal. Finnaly my last day there after I cleaned the yard out, I decided to dig. And I'm glad I did. However, Dave did dig a complete shoe buckle and Vermont copper at a site I brought him to.
