We have had such a bad drought , big fires, and now floods. We didnt get hit by the floods here except once, but have had unbelieveable rainfall. We have been so dry for the past 3-4 years that I hadnt even thought much about doing any arrowhead hunting. Then a couple of days ago,Garebel (Thank you by the way !!) reminded me that I needed to get out there and do some looking,Sooooo yesterday and this morning I did , and man was it the time to go !!!! I got there yesterday morning and secured my permission, which was originally gained by my Grandfather with a bottle of jim beam, many, many years ago, I remember, he always had 3-4 bottles of beam under the seat to give to the landowner, when he secured permission. They always remember me,and my grandfather from when I was about 6,we had found a 5" petrified wood spearpoint and were jumping up and down yelling, hooting and hollering, and running around, they said at first, they thought one of us got hurt.

Anyway, after I secured my permission and handed over a bottle of beam, I got about my business. This area is the site of numerous campsites, but in all these years,we have only found 1 teepee ring. I drove out on the ranch to the spot where my Grandfather always parked, and started walking. I could see the rain had really pounded the area hard, but was a little skeptical, as I know that ,as hard rains wash out points,it covers them up just as fast.
I got to an area where we had good luck in the past. Within minutes I had a whole point, then another, and another. The past 2 days have been like that, whole points, broken points, tools and even 2 pieces of worked Turquois !! (a first here for me) I spent about 9 hrs over the past 2 days of walking. The folowing pics (and there are many) show everything I found yesterday & today. The beautiful obsidian point I found in my foot print,,, I had stepped on it !! and didnt see it until I was crisscrossing the area. I love my points,,,but am pretty sure the Turquois pieces are my favorite !

Pikespeakcharlie , Thank You for those great pictures - The points are amazing ! Any idea as to the particular native culture/s represented here ?
Keep an eye out for large ant hills when you are out artifact hunting - ants tend to sort and classify things , I found a number of prehistoric
turquoise beads in New Mexico 40 years ago - on anthills - easy to see and pluck (also illegal now where I found mine )

Very cool finds! What corner of colorado are you in? I found a paleolithic point on a friend's ranch down towards Trinidad, and a very tiny bird point somewhere out near Steamboat Springs, a lifetime ago.

Glad ya all enjoyed the pic's !!!! It was the best 2 hunts for me in 47 yrs,in sheer quantity !!! it was just unbelieveable ,and hopefully not a once in a lifetime.

Relicdude,I'm not sure about your area in CT,but out here,we start looking anywhere there is water,spring,creek,stream.etc. then we look for highplaces close to the water as well. ---- Arg, This was a very large area & camping & hunting grounds. I can not give a time line on them. I know it dates to ancient times ,as a teenager I witnessed a paleo point found there, I also know utes, commanches, and others hunted in this area over different times as late as the 1850s,but I can not give an educated accurate answer on age.I also look at every ant pile, and have found a few items over the years.----- Unclemac, I already have a day set up ,and permission is secured for next week, and a bottle of Beam is under the seat. ----- Steve,My pockets were full ! I got paranoid about breaking them ,went back to the truck twice.

Up here in northwest ct we have a lot of streams and rivers and it's very hilly and rocky. I know the lithics are mostly quartzite. But none the less you have some beautiful finds there.
