Consciousness, Brain, THETA, & "Night Classes"

We are all a sum total of lifes experiences,unfortunately to many bad ones. Have you ever heard of 'trigger',what I mean is,say you had a tramatic experience, as a child 'violation' in other words,there was something in the scene,be it someone wearing a black belt with a big shiny buckle,or whatever,you became upset by the injustice,low and behold when you see 'that buckle' again and your mind jumps back into the original scene fueled by upset sucking you back into the endless loop of thinking,you start sinking in your thinking.They are only 'thoughts',sure,you went through it,but,it's not real,they are only thoughts.Cheer up,there is a way out,this will help,take a leasurely strool on this site,let it go in one ear out the other,see if something in you agrees.GodBless Brother! TY; I agree that the stress "thing" is a PROBLEM when "flashbacks" occur. Wife has STRESSFUL "bad memories"; and she is learning to "de-stress" by sitting meditation.
 

Perhaps I misunderstood ....I agree it does not help to be drawn into taking on another's problems..Healthy detachment is something to strive for in certain situations for sure..:)

We are by default,from nature,stress in nature be it the hot sun,rain,wind,it is a stress,how is it nature grows stronger in spite of stress,yet,stress kills people or severely limits them to cope with life properly. All answers can be found within,no need to look out 'there'. Have Her try the meditation exercise on that web site,you may want to also.What have you got to lose but excess baggage you shouldn't be carrying around anyway.

It's so very hard when painful traumas of the past are repeated in the present...then you experience all the emotions from both it can be emotionally hard to seperate. them ...PTSD so painful ..good therapy and nature and it's peacefulness do heal...

Is it the exact same trauma,or,as I mentioned the 'trigger',you get sucked in to your thinking,you resent it,you get upset,causing more thinking just a vicious cycle,no way out,actually there is if you will yearn for that more than anything else.You may want to check out that site also.

Certainly everyone has baggage of some sort. As far as triggers they are some sort of repeat either the same theme and or event or something that at least touches on some part of it.
Hard without knowing details..but what would make it even worse would be for the person to feel bad about having these feelings and reactions , rather than understanding what has occurred .
I feel that insight oriented psychotherapy can be a godsend so that the over reactions are played out on the therapist ie transference rather than out in the world where it causes problems .
The end result of good therapy should be that the persons reactions are lessened ,they are functioning well in the world and can deal with thevpast the present and the future .

There are a lot of good thoughts on this thread. I would like to thank everybody for sharing. Meditation can be extremely helpful, I agree. I don't want to interject too much but I like what you guys are saying.

Great reference world talker. This start to get back to the true wisdom of the book and not a water downed translation of a translation of a translation. Wish I had the knowledge to read it in its native language. But even its original would have been written a couple generations after most events.

WT have you spent anytime with the more gnostic texts - those are my favorite.

Very difficult to translate Aramaic to English,one word could encompass an entire paragraph in English,it was a language of understanding which people today miss, sad to say.I have read some of the Philokalia.
 

Very cool - my hats off to you. You are exactly right that words in done languages just don't have a translation so sometime you miss an entire point. Best.

I was taught the understandings of the mind, as through this manuscript, from around the age of 12, by the man who actually brought it back from Turkey with his best friend. There was another codex also, Yonan codex, if I'm not mistaken.

It is helpful, imho, to realize that the mind is a tool, and if one allows it to do, what it is designed to do, life can be a lot less stressfull. The brain is designed to keep stress and anxiety at reduced or acceptable levels (free will sure can mess that up though).

In fact, the man who brought this manuscript back, started some of his studies with POW's of the Korean war.
