37, that is some real eye candy.

Are those heat treated or just naturally colorful.?
I am putting material under my next campfire and will be doing a little experimenting.

Thanks Bravo, that is the natural raw form of the material without being heat treated. I've read that the part of Ohio where Flint Ridge outcrops was possibly a shallow sea floor or lagoon.

" Deep-water flint deposits tend to be more pure ( without chemical additions ) while shallow-water deposits have more disturbance and hence more inclusions of one sort or another. This helps explain the many kinds and colors in a relatively small area of Flint Ridge. " from " Flint Ridge Artifacts " - Lar Hothem

37 thanks man.
rock, lucky to live where I do for this hobby.

I am glad you are posting some. Dont hold back we would like to see your finds. I got a peek at some one day and they were truly great.

Hi Rock , this may read a bit odd ,. with all the differant cultures over the past thousands of year's ,.leaving untold numbers of point's and blades behide,. in any given area .Southern California ,. maybe the land of stagnation ??
Heres a green hornfel core-stone ,. "how old" you do dare to ask ? well,. it could be paleo ?? but then again maybe only 1300BP. Its all the same out here in San Diego [S.D.] till 1300BP with the Yuman influence . Up till the Yuman influence your look'n at the total lithic tool kit ,. needed/ used in S.D. for near 10,000 yr's ?? with very,. very few exseptions ! This is it ,.. core-stone ,.. bladelets ,.
Very odd ??
Found a nice one liner tonight in some archy paper : [ 10,000BP - 1,300 BP ]= "Clear pattern of continuity"

I used to pick them up too, but put them to the side of the tobacco field for other hunters to find. I like to leave some history where I hunted.

Core from OR

This was found a few years back in eastern OR. Have been told that conical cores were sometimes used by paleo groups. One of my best.

SUPER example
I can see where real nice blade flakes have been dropped from that dude.
With a little imagination I can see the negative image of a couple Clovis performs in photo one.

I'd sure like to see the points that came off that core,MIGHT have been a clovis core. I'd like to think so but don't know how you could tell for sure. Thanks for reply GatorBoy.

Welsbury that core is so big it looks almost like a tool. They did make tools from cores..

found recently...

DSC00167.webpDSC00166.webp still some cortex on top, maker figured it was about useless at this point and put an edge on it.

this second piece is real purty IMO and is pretty well reduced. It rings when tapped...
