PENNSYLVANIA (WJAC) — Discussion continues about potentially suspending the Pennsylvania gas tax, one of the highest state gas taxes in the country, as prices at the pump continue to jump.Lawmakers in both chambers are considering a gas tax holiday that would remove Pennsylvania’s gas tax for a limited period. The Senate proposal would last 60 days, while the House version would run for six months. Supporters say the move would provide needed help for people across the state, while opponents argue it is not sustainable.

Oregon's state gas tax is currently 40 cents per gallon, with a proposed increase to 46 cents per gallon pending voter approval in May 2026.

You can have gas delivered to your vehicle. So now you not drive, while paying interest on a car loan, for a vehicle that is always depreciating in value and which requires insurance.

Seems to me big oil and the fiat bankers are making money off our backs, Nothing new.

Make no mistake. You are witnessing the END of American democracy!

Do we have a say in this? We had nearly zero voting power prior to redistricting. Now after restricting we have literally no voting power. No reason to even waste our time participating in the republic voting system. I’m serious after registering to vote at age 18, and never missing a vote my entire life…I may never vote again.
Yes we do have a voice in this and if EVERYONE GETS OUT TO VOTE ,things may change !

This is why I bought an electric car in 2023. There was no doubt in my mind gas prices would rise excessively again. Of course, if data centers start popping up in PA, it will cause electricity prices to rise and cause me to pay more for driving my electric car. There were some affordable used electric cars available before the current rise in gas prices. Probably not much available anymore though.

You couldn't pay me to drive an electric car. Not practical in this part of the country (among many other reasons).

A lot of people stop the electric cars after it starts freezing.

National average gas prices

CBS News reported that suspending the federal gas tax would likely reduce gas by 18.4 cents per gallon.

“Suspending the gas tax would likely provide only limited relief, as recent price increases have far outpaced the federal levy. The federal government charges 18.4 cents per gallon on gas and 24.4 cents per gallon on diesel, with the revenue funding the Highway Trust Fund,” CBS News reported.

“Suspending the tax would reduce the current price of regular gas to $4.34 per gallon and diesel to $5.39 per gallon,” the outlet reported.

This notion is also being floated for national taxes. Problem is the roads still need to be paid for and this idea would either kick the can farther down the road or shift those costs to something else. Or the roads are neglected now with no future correction.

Why should someone else pay for the road users today? Our debt is already out of control so adding to that is nutz.

High costs reduce use and repair rate. That is reflected and adjusted for in the use tax.

We need to stop exporting and demand the oil companies quit windfall profiteering on this unnecessary, poorly planned and insanely idiotic war prosecution.

Only because we import and export in a sorta global free market way.

Domestic oil would cost USA citizens less if we restricted exports. We should, at least until the SOH issue gets ironed out. Then the energy sector can go back to raping us gently.

How about we 'tariff' oil exports?
