Well we headed out to Washington park today...We only got 3 hours of hunting in before the silly rain started...sigh.....Nickel_buff1935 started the day off right with a massive silver mans ring.....We continued to move across the property until we found a area (not very big) where we could swing through the penny signals and trash....This area is LOADED with metal....I can not wait until my new 3X6" DD gets here!!! I bet it will help out alot. My first real signal came about 30 minutes into the hunt. In fact it is the first signal i dug! A nice 1908 Barber dime! It was cool because i made Nickel_buff swing his Minelab Xterra 50 over the signal and he did not even get a hit. It was a very faint signal next to 2 pulltabs. I extracted the pulltabs to help pinpoint the target....And at 7.5 inches down out pops this nice silver dime....Nickel and I just looked at it laying in the bottom of the hole for around 20 seconds before i dove on it!!!
As the time went on i continued pulling silver from this area....Nickel also dug a 1983 quarter then after rechecking his hole pulled the 1947 Washington. The V nickel was my 10 YO's Eyeball find from a week or 2 ago. All in all we did decent for 3 hours....I wish we could have been there all day...GRRR @ YOU RAIN!!! The cowboy i am unsure as to the age...Same goes for the Badge...But you will see i Dinged the badge nicely...sigh....
If anyone has any info on this watch fob please let me know...It is dated 1870 and the one word i can see is commemorative. Nickel found this cool little cow also....I love this thing!

I am sorry in advance for all the pics...I know it will take a bit to load. I just got this camera and i am learning it.

A shotgun roll is a shotgun shell that someone has emptied out, and filled with coins as a stash. When full, they would re-crimp the roll to make it look like any other shotgun shell. When they re-crimped them, the primer (little cap thing on in the center of the brass part) would leave a circle indentation on the first coin......which is what yours looks like.

Interesting....I would have never thought of that one. I wonder now if that is what this mark is from.

Real nice diggs outraged! That park looks to be a real good huntin' spot...

Keep safe...

The finds are few and far between however you have the potential to find a ton of stuff because it is such a large park. I would DIE to find a park like this that is virgin. O man how sweet it would be. Charles must have hit it as a virgin...I wish i could see all the coins he found there.

Do you kno why his Minelab wasnt pickin up that signal?

I really do not know why...... He thinks he had his sensitivity down too low. I do not know much about those machines. I have always preferred the ease of use you get from the XLT. He is still learning his machine. And i must say...Doing quite well...I think he is up to 11 silvers now since he bought his machine in mid june....I did not find my first silver for over 2 years. Once he figures out the X50 i am sure he will be an animal.

Yeah, we had a great few hours hunting!

I had my sensitivity turned down, trying to weed through the junk in this park...

The settings I was using were good enough to pull that huge man's silver ring and 1947 silver G-Dub-Ya ;)

If anyone has tips for me on the XT-50, I'm all ears.

Stumbling around with this machine since the first week of June... I have found seven silver coins and one silver ring.

Not to mention a bunch of other cool stuff.

I'll be putting a nice month of June report together in a thread to share with everyone.

I've gotta update my coin counter too... I've gotta be well over 200 coins in less then 30 days.

I've been too busy hunting to take pics and post 'em!

You guys haven't even seen my Virgin Mary yet...

<letting the suspense build>

BTW, I'm very happy with my XT-50 and I hope to become even more effective with it in the near future!

You guys did very well at that park!

Congratulations on all the nice finds!

I never even noticed it was a good date....I imagine it will clean up nice...I see the full lib on the head.....I wonder what shape it would be in...I bet is is a 10 dollar penny maybe.

I have seen shotgun roll marks before, and yours looks exactly the same. Dimes were the most common coins for a shotgun roll because they were the highest face value coin you could fit into a shotgun shell. You could use pennies, nickles, or dimes......anything bigger wouldn't fit.......unless you had an 8 guage shotgun.

OutRaged and I went back to the park yesterday...

I dug another ring as did OutRaged ;D

This park is a lot of fun!

MD'ing and people watching are a great combo ;)

<itchin' to go back>
