Well I started down stream and worked my way up. The water is still a bit deeper than my boots so I had to get in and then out and walk through the woods till the next bar came up. Didnt get to hit all of them cause some were on the other side of the creek bed. I was really hoping something would be there but nothing for the first 2 hours till the last sand bar and then finally I started seeing some keepers. My camera died out at the end and I lost some pics. HH, rock

Man! That is a pretty place. Nice pottery and blade. What is the long white piece? I'm glad that you made it out Rock!

I enjoyed seeing where you hunt. Hope you find a lot more when the water goes down.

Driftwood, I put it to the side to pick it up on my way out and forgot it. I have a friend that likes to polish them and make displays out of them.

I found everything on the gravel bar below where that tree fell over so Im thinking it came from the root system. We should get rain again this weekend and on my next trip out there Ill check the roots of it.

Not sure if this would work by you but there was a little trick I've used with friends in north Florida where we would flip over large stones and even some I would consider boulders with the help of moving water and find some very cool stuff that has gathered beneath them

That's a great day. Makes for some hard hunting, having to climb in and out of the creek. But was well worth it. Thanks for showing rock. Great pics. Love the pottery. sixeight

I know allot dont care about the pottery at times, but for those that do like it and have trouble finding it it is a good chance to help them see just how it appears on the gravel bars. If there is a sandbar and no gravel you might as well just pass on it. If it werent for finding the shards it would of been a boring day. Thanks, rock

Thank you for those pics and this post. I know a spot with a gravel bar about 3 ft deep. It sits below a swimming hole that has produced a sterling ring for me, and as the story goes, below a native settlement or camp. My friend has told me his relative found whole pots and a clay "oven" one year after a flood washed part of the bank away. Since he owned the land around it, he became worried "people would come in to dig his fields" and so he buried the finds again. Supposedly he left them all where they lay. His land lies upstream also from the swimming hole and huge gravel bar. I know the Delaware tribe was in this area. Anyone know anything about the use of "clay ovens" and whether they were used in Northeastern US by natives?
Thanks again for your pics....I can almost hear the water .

Nice hunt rock. Looks beautiful. Old Dude not sure on the clay ovens. I am sure they are fired just like pottery

Chance of more rain this weekend here. Thats what is great about hunting a creek every time it rains its like a new hunt. Seeing I found most upstream next time I think I will start up first and work down. Thanks everyone, rock

Good luck. Warm up this weekend here too with rain, but unfortunately I work weekends. Dropping back down into teens overnight for Christmas, so no hunts here for a bit. Thank you, Tn for the reply on the use of ovens.
