Hello All,

I got out in the cane fields with Shanegalang and Diggergirl today. We have been a little disheartened about getting farther and farther away from our Colonial hotspot, but I have figured that as long as there are still occasional buttons dug, any of those could really be anything--military buttons, coins, etc. So we keep working out, continuing the grid, and having faith.

Well it took a while but Diggergirl pulled through with the skunking she always seems to deliver us boys. After a long day of digging, with a few flat buttons and pipe stems found, Diggergirl announced she had a coin. It turned out to be the NINTH Spanish Silver from this massive field:

She requested that I post the great find today since she hasn't been too active on the forum recently, and really wanted some replies. :icon_thumleft:

Here are her and my combined finds for the day:

The coin is either an 1800 or 1808 Carolus IIII Half Real. It has been damaged by the burning of the cane fields each year, but it is still a killer find. :headbang:

Congrats, Diggergirl, on digging your oldest coin! Such a pleasure to hunt with you today. 8)

Congratulations Diggergirl! You did it, nice silver.

Nothing like a little Spanish silver to spice up a hunt! :headbang:  WTG Diggergirl!

That field is one for the ages :headbang: It seems the 19th century folk there only dealt in silver :o ... much like here, so far this year I've only gotten one braided hair copper in contrast to 8 silvers... and here its really silver or bust, LC was toast city

Congrats diggergirl :headbang: :headbang:

A big CONGRATS to Diggergirl, what a fantastic find. I simply adore the pic of y'all...so sweet. Can't wait to hit the canefields with the Canefield Bandits.

Nice :icon_thumright: love a field with clay pipe and pottery shards :icon_thumright:

Nice shiney stuff there Diggergirl !!!

Congratulations :blob7: great finds, I doubt I could digg that many targets in a week let alone an afternoon

Grats. Looks like a fantastic field!

I sure miss digging with her, way more fun to look at than you Buck, especially when digging a hole. :laughing9:

Big Congrats on the Spanish!
great to see the smile ;D

WTG Diggergirl!! She may have located a whole new productive section for you and the Canefield Bandit group to hunt. Those are good finds from a very old area. I knew when you called that someone had made a good find from the "Bank Field".
Here's an idea: Take Anthony and Diggergirl and let them scout different grids while you and Shane sit in the shade and drink beer-LOL. HH, Quindy.

Looks like it was a productive day.

you have just scratched the surface of what you will find over time in this field.awesome stuff!

Nice job on the Spanish silver, Diggergirl way to go :headbang:

200 year old Spanish Colonial silver is always good for putting a nice smile on a fellow's (and gal's too!) face. ;D

I'll wager #10 real is not too far off in this site.

Constant plowing over several decades can certainly drag relics, coins, china shards, pipe stems, iron, etc., this way and that......over a much bigger area than was originally confined to the site in the days of original occupation. Just a tip from experience, if ya'll can zero in on the very heaviest concentration of glass, china shards, and big iron, and nobody minds a little more digging, try taking off a few inches of that sandy soil in say a 6'x6' wide area and see what you find. I've dug many a Colonial dump in years past, finding reales mixed in with all that big iron, glass, china, pipe stems, etc., and buried deeper than most detectors will read.
