Diggers Show

Dunno About those guys, if they are real as some say, some of the things they say causes you to wonder. Like, in area's where they are in hill country, tree's high grass and such and say ya have to watch out for copper heads, timber rattlers etc, and they are jabbering away, and wearing both ear pieces on their ears, they would never hear a hiss or rattle, and it gives people watching a false sense of security to see that, if there are snakes in the area, might be best only to have one ear muff on and volume turned down to hear. don't know just my thought tho.:dontknow:

But don't forget they have a camera crew with them.to watch their back. Unlike the way we hunt alone

Lol Jeff beat me

Really? I'll take your word for it and look for it on a rerun next week. I'm one that stopped watching after the first two episode because of the silliness (and foreign language and fairy tale prices and...).
What was this weeks episode called?

I thought the same thing Jeff, Much of the extreme prices could be in hopes of people running out and buying a AT Pro. If they can get people thinking they can buy a machine and make that kind of money. I am sure that since this is a TV show there equipment was probably supplied to them.
When I got into this hobbie my first hunt a friend let me use his extra Minelab Explorer to see if I liked it. I did so he told me to get a decent machine instead of waisting the money to buy something cheaper only to wind up buying a better one. However he did tell me that its a hobbie and I should not expect to get my money back anytime soon.
I kind of feel bad if people are watching the show and going out to buy a good higher end detector thinking they will get rich.

yes we get them here.
it's usually easy to tell if a newbie is more interested in getting rich quick though.
and I must admit, when it happens, I wish them luck , but at the same time,
I do feel sad for them :(

& just hope they get hooked on the Hobby :laughing7:

It usually says "potential" value. I think they consider the history of the item. For instance, finding a 32 cal. handgun "potential" value $100. Finding a 32 cal. handgun used by Al Capone "potential" value $1000. If these items could be proven to be used during the mine wars they could be worth more money for historical value. Also, back then a lot of the casings could have been picked up off the ground at a later date to reuse. It was a different time back then and not much was wasted that could be reused. Just my thoughts.

Lookup team atc on youtube. They have been doing this for years. Even using their crazy lingo. Even though I am just buying my first detector I have been hunting a dozen times with people who have detectors. Made sure I liked it before I forked over my hard earned money. I dont plan on finding any spent ammunition shells that are worth 12 bucks a piece I sure hope to find a silver coin or two this next year. Be happy if I find anything interesting really. I keep hearing about these pulltabs. They sound fascinating.

If you ever want to go pull tab huntin let me know. I am a pull tab and half horse shoe hunter from way back. But if you go you have to keep quiet, dont want anybody gettin my pull tab spot. I also have a ton of modern fired lead and the elusive 30-06 brass.

Hold on to that brass. Might be worth 12 bucks a piece a piece in no time with the uncertainty of the gun laws. Probably a touchy subject so I wont voice my opinion.

would be cloth machine gun belts...this was pre ww1 machine guns were just transitioning from gatling gun tactics....not really supression and the higher cyclic rate we associate with machine guns. 500 rounds a minute but, these guys were up in the woods on a hillside not defending a spot on a trench or providing supressing fire, couldnt know if there was really gonna be a pile unless they ran through several cans of ammo....i would think a large amount of 30-06 with few to no stripper clips = machine guns....stripper clips are a throwaway item in combat if a couple of guys in a position were firin sprinfields you would find a stripper for somewhere around every five cases...but, must consider scattering and if anything was picked up or collected closer to the date of the fighting.

Guilty as charged. KG and Ringy pushed me over the edge to go out and buy a good metal detector. I thought I'd make the money back in no time. Now I'm hooked, have a total appreciation for relics and doubt I'll ever sell one find. If the Diggers brought one more person into the hobby, they've done a good job.

I looked at the number of response to this post, and wondered what would happen if we could get this same response to supporting a national organization. Cannot understand why you all keep beating this dead horse. The show is out there....some like it, most don't. Will never figure out the mindset of those who particpate in this pastime....

Relic's are just cash or junk .... But i can always find some one to buy that rusty junk.........But i am not a relic hunter ... but at times i run across one..............

I have no problem considering myself a relic hunter, but also,
I am not a collector by the real definition. I am a hoarder more then a collector.
But I will sell 99 % of what I find. 100% after so long of mooning over it :laughing7:
(heck, I'd even sell my last & next Girl friend, I'm not proud)
only things I still don't want to sell are the Slot machines & even they
would go if I was offered 1oo times their value.

My position has always been, eventually I'll find another, and if I don't,
doesn't matter, I'll find something cool enough to make me forget I found
what I sold :tongue3:

I don't have problem with the collectors, hoarders, or sellers. I sell some type of finds and I hoard other types. I just hate ones that have total disregard for what they find. Why are you even metal detecting if the finds mean nothing to you. I know a guy who found a really cool, really old sheriffs badge but he has no idea what he did with it.

It's too bad Hitler was so misguided in his ideas, he certainly could have done allot of really great things
