Diggers

Theres always going to be a gap between detectors and archies there competing for the same thing....you should be thanking these guys for working with the archies because without them they couldnt find there you know what with both hands...myself i would never hunt for any historical society because they are the greediest of them all....

Blaming the show for bad behavior is silly. What was the reason people were not filling holes and sneeking into places they were not supposed to be before the shows started. I bet it was not but a couple days after the first detectors were sold that someone was trying to sneak into a restricted area.

I have seen that clip ... and LOVE IT !!! It is much more entertaining than Diggers itself. It is obvious that some people get and some don't.

Come on! If Diggers wasn't on the air, Putin would NEVER have invaded the Ukraine!!!! :laughing7:

EXCELLENT - 2 POINTS !! I happen to be of Ukrainian descent and have actually metal detected a 1649 battlefield there.

BTW - this is not "just a show". It is not on the Travel Channel - it is on National Geographic. It is supposed to be Accurate and Informative.
Who made up that rule?

That's great, but the problem is with the people who see the show, buy a metal detector, don't know the rules or don't join a club and simply detect protected historic sites. Incidents of this are at an all time high at national and state historic sites. Shows like Diggers are giving a bad rap to the entire hobby. Add that to misidentification of artifacts, and this just increases the gap between archaeologists and hobbyists.
Wait a minute...are you an Archie?

I can't believe how calm they were about the colonial coin spill.........that would have pushed me over the top!

I like the show, weather it's 100% real or not. Seeing their finds & learning the brief history they share from across the country is good enough for me; don't let the goofiness bother me. It's more enjoyable than watching Todd Hoffman & crew fighting with their frik'n equipment 90% of the time or watching Ax Men argue & fight. They may act like kid's sometimes or ( ******ed ) like some say, but so did the Three Stooges.

I think Diggers are more of an inspiration for future detectorist than a downfall for the hobby.

You get it. :icon_thumleft:

Anyone or show that disseminates incorrect information about what they find and publicly present wrong historical "facts" is wrong for the hobby. It makes us all look stupid.

I don't think that is the intention at all. I am pretty sure the intention is to sell equipment to the people watching that have never tried this hobby. Look on EBay at all the MD related articles for sale. I am sure some are from regular hobbyists wanting to upgrade but ( in my thinking ) many are being sold by people fooled into thinking they can find the riches these shows pretend are there. You can bet the sellers are loving the gold coins that were just found too.

It is all about ratings not selling detectors. I was part of a panel that met with David Lyle, CEO of NatGeoTV, to discuss these types of problems with the show. The meeting was obviously useless. NatGeoTV is owned by Rupert Murdoch - they just don't care what they put on TV. Ratings means $ from sponsors. White's actually pulled their ads from the show and Garrett will not formally sponsor them. However, the two morons sell Garrett detectors from their web site. That is why you see them using all Garrett equipment.

You might want to dig a little more so you have accurate information. Also nat geo probably thought the panel just didn't get the concept of a tv show which is why it was a waste for you. It is a TV show, not a documentary on how to metal detect, ugh why don't a bunch of you "professional detectorists" get together and make a proper detecting show pilot, then take it to all the networks and pitch it to them, I'm sure they will jump all over it:0)
