I don't think anyone is making enemies on here...we can have a good heated discussion without holding grudges...I know Im not mad at anyone...if we all agreed on everything it would get pretty boring.Come on guys this thread has gone on enough, all its doin instead of given opions is making enemies with each other from both sides of the fence, cuz one doesnt like the others post, well I dont think thats what any of us,are actually here for. Its a good Forum, with many good people we should just be sharing tips, find stories something thats benefical to the hobby
I was talking with the people and it came up in the conversation. No I'm not one of thise people that blame everything on what happens in movies, Just sayin that just not this show but the rest with there ridiculous pricing of the finds is what's killing it.
Yeah, the Diggers show gives a POTENTIAL value and a lot of there finds have historical value that makes them worth more...I haven't seen them sale anything, although Ive seen plenty of stuff sold by TNET members, which I have no problem with.I didn't think the pricing was off ? I might be wrong, are you thinking of that wrestler from American diggers, or whatever that horrible show was called ? Now those prices were outrageous. Just mho.
No...they have always had a sense of humor.
It gets quite old to watch amateur videos with a monotone speaker digging in some park that has been detected 100 times before.

I can truly say that the Diggers show is the reason I bought my detector. I'm totally new to this hobby and have only about 5 hours behind my coil. I'm one of the new guys " ruining the hobby" I guess!

Everyone here was new once upon a time. I personally think most of the stories about newbies ruining everything are just that STORIES. Welcome to the maddness.I can truly say that the Diggers show is the reason I bought my detector. I'm totally new to this hobby and have only about 5 hours behind my coil. After reading the Responsible Metal Detecting article on the Diggers Nat Geo website I tend to agree. Seems like most of the "code of ethics" was written to please the archies. Responsible Metal Detecting | National Geographic ChannelDon't mind the stupid antics so much. What is really bad for the hobby is the way every find is given a potential value that is usually extremely high. They don't keep anythig they find, because they are digging for the Archies. Notice the flags and the Archies at the end of evey episode. Makes you wonder if NatGeo isn't trying to purposely sabotage the hobby. Last I heard , the Archies hated us, so why all of the sudden are they our best buds? Anyway, if they are not trying to hurt our hobby I would hate to see it if they were.
This show posts more inaccurate information about artifacts than I have ever seen. I just accidentally caught an episode of the Diggers show where the two morons are digging a Rev War Fort site near Pittsburgh. They indicate that there is a legend that the Americans ran out of lead and melted down pewterware to make musket balls. When they find one, they indicate that this is the first one EVER found and that it is priceless!!! What a load of absolute bull! "Pewter" musket balls are quite common. I have an entire chapter on them in my soon to be published book "A Guide to Musket Ball and Small Shot Identification". We have excavated them at numerous Rev War battlefields. They found a large (probably Brown Bess) musket ball and state that large musket balls only come from Virginia. Boy am I learning alot from this show!! They also show backed marked REV WAR buttons. Back marking started in 1796. This is, in my opinion, misleading information that the public will take as fact. Is this the new look for the National Geographic Society? They give a bad name to metal detecting both hobbyist and archaeologist!!
