Diggin Diamonds

Herkemers are totally different. They are really real diamonds, they are just called that because they look like diamonds (shape). Actually they are quartz crystals. Still if you find a nice one they are pretty cool and can be worth quite a bit for a larger sized one.

Diamond can actually be found in many western states too. Kimberlite deposits are not restricted to Arkansas. Usually hunt diamonds the same way you look for gold. Wonder how many gold dredgers toss anything not gold away. Bad idea. People in Southern Oregon in the 1920-30 era were cursing a silvery metal that clogged up the riffles, allowing gold to flow on out. Silvery metal proved to be platinum, one of the few things heavier than gold. Many raw diamonds will also fluoresce under black light or UV light, as well as some other interesting minerals. Knowledge is power.
