I got out yesterday! Yay! I think its been months since I've been able to get out swinging. Only had a half day so I ventured down along Chesapeake bay to see if any of my old glory holes were still unplanted. Luckily one of the better spots was not yet planted in corn. No till, sprayed with round up and covered in thick chicken poo honey brittle (PU!) yet I decided to give it a whirl with the Explorer SE anyhow.

LOTS OF SIGNALS! This is the 3rd cut piece of Spanish silver from this site and I am willing to bet there'll be another. it almost looks like this piece was a 1/2 cut and its been broken by the plow.

The 1812 large cent was a surprise. It was WAY deep and if I hadnt been there to see it pop up from 15+ inches I wouldn't have believed it. I thought it was a smashed aluminum can the way it sounded. The whole time it sounded as though it was on top of the ground.

Neat anchor button, some decorative buttons and buckle pieces. Also a watch key. Looks like a silver mirror back plate thats been smashed up. Another silver item with GWO engraved in the center. I dont think this is that old??? Also a couple rings including one silver.

First time at this site with the EXPLORER SE. I'll be back here because I was digging signals all the way up until I had to leave.

Nice digs. Do you know what the Football shaped brass piece is? I dug most of one one that looks close to yours.

I think that is a back plate for a drawer pull.

Wow, if you hadn't said you already hunted that spot before, I would have thought you were on a virgin site! That's my kinda digging right there

That anchor button is interesting. Have you been able to make out the writing above the anchor?

The watch key, the engraved tombac, the Jacksonian button, and of course the cut Spanish are all nice finds.

I have always heard that the football shaped piece went on saddles in combination with these bracket pieces that often turn up on colonial sites. I tried looking for colonial saddles on the internet to see if I could find an example actually on a saddle, but was unsuccessful.

If y0ou have a chance, post some of the stellar finds once you've cleaned them. Looks like you have some sweet recoveries!

This is the 1st time I hit the site with the EXP SE. We've only been on the site a few times because its always been left in either weeds or corn stubble. Its also extremely dense soil right on the chesapeake that often floods with salt water and our detectors stability has been a problem. I decided to concentrate on the outskirts and as you can see it was a good idea.

Appreciate the clarification on the saddle item. I have several of both pieces and yes they do show up on very old sites.

I still have to clean the finds. Ive been too busy so far. Heck, Im lucky to have gotten out at all.

The cut silver is a great find. The watch key is beautiful, and especially beautiful is that Jacksonian button. Your anchor button looks like it has some writing on it, and I would be very excited to see what that is!

Congratulations!
