Discovery ch. Gold Rush Alaska

I really don't feel Jack is skimming, but why do They lead us to think he may be? :icon_scratch: It would have been so much better if 2 or three guys were involved in the process. It seems to me the crew would have liked to be there. Can you imagine the suspense? God only knows they had so little time they couldn't afford to witness it. No they had to sit around and wait for Jacks answer.
The Black Magic Separator got my interest. Where I am most of the black sand I have is magnetite so I am thinking :sign13:.
I wouldn't go out and buy one but may try to come up with something similar. There's got to be something better.
One more show and I'll be watching along with the rest of you. Right now I guess I'll click on the link GG posted to try and find a better look at the magic separator.

Unless you are dealing with huge amounts of material....just use a good magnet

RE-todd needs to get the shaker table going right .step up and act like he has learned something. I know this is a staged reality show .but he needs to man up !he should have paid the 15 yr.old kid for some mining lessons. I wish I had the money they wasted !!!!! when Dorsey comes back -he will show them how to listen and learn.I would love to have the chance they had. I'm out of work ,If I had that opportunity I would have made a showing by now . I could have run my 3" dredge in there waste pond and showed them more than that. At least I have enough sense to sample....... I would love to check that ground with the gold bug pro.

They sure are all made out to look like a bunch of jackasses. It HAS to be for TV...

About the skimming, I don't think ole' crazy Jack is skimming. What I think is they are skimming, but for the purposes of manufactured drama for TV. They are probably just making it look like they aren't finding anything so they will have more to show at the end when they hit the "glory hole". Baaahaahhahaaha

No testing, nothing just look around and say "It must be here, so lets dig a giant hole here!"

Episode 10

Every time they show that gold jar it seems to be more and more black sand. I'd bet that a full half of thier measured gold recovery was really black sand.

Again, all sorts of wasted time, fuel and labor. Why would you wait till you run COMPLETELY out of fuel and then while everything is shut down and with the hole filling back up with water, Jack takes a leasurely trip to town to order more fuel? :dontknow: :icon_scratch: :dontknow:
About four days completely shot, maybe they went fishing again. :dontknow:

It all has to be for the sake of the show.

I see they are bringing them back for another season. :tongue3:

The set up for season 2, from Discovery Channel:

After Show Special: FULL DISCLOSURE
Premiere Feb. 25, 2011 at 10 PM
"In this special episode, we return to Oregon to find the Hoffman's mining crew wrestling with their future after the Alaskan winter ended the mining season. With previously un-aired material, the crew reveals what went on behind the scenes and how they really felt about the most controversial incidents."

GG, You know me. It don't matter how much I complain, I will be glued to the tube on the 25th to watch dang thing. :tongue3:

Not one argument on the last show. Did anyone see the gumball size nugget they showed on the previews for the next season.

Has anyone else noticed how much black sand is in his ""keeper "" bottle with his gold ???

Yep me too.......along with the rest of the 65 million viewers! :o

GG, thanks for posting the video. We watched it last night at our leisure without commercials.

Is it black sand, or is the gold dark or stained from sitting for so long. That gold there getting hasn't moved for how many hundreds of years? Can't really tell.

Has anyone noticed in the back ground when Jack was panning " his pan of gold" the gold screw and sluice box in the "gold tent"?

Gold normally will not "STAIN" into one color or another.. i will change colors when high impurities are mingled with the gold..i.e...gold from the Black Hills of the Dokota's...I have seen gold take on a rusty look as the iron oxcides of the suround dirt caused some TEMPORARY staining of the gold..which wil usually wash clean rather easily...

However. nice good looking yellow gold will many times turn torwards a dark and dull gold color...even towards a shade of brown when expose to air for a long time...hint..hint...

Yes they haven't done a good job of seperating the BLACK sand and the gold... either using viniger and soaking the black sands in it for a coule of days... stiring ocationally, or using some acid, will confirm the presence of gold within the black sands...

But from what it looks like in the video, is there are a lot of black sand still mixed with the recoverd gold...

Klondike...

Here is my two cents:

I think every last part of the show has been scripted. I mean every last detail. If I were a betting man, I would bet that the film crew has 400 hours of the crew fighting and bickering over anything and everything, including who may have eaten the last strawberry Barbie Pop Tart.

After watching the whole season, much of the stuff they did just didn't make sense. I can't put my finger on it, but the episodes sometimes didn't seem to flow correctly...and know I think it was because the film crews were looking for stuff to make issues out of.

Discovery is not giving us the full story...not that it matters, but we are not seeing everything. In episode 9, one of the guys throws his hat in disgust because the buckets were only producing $2 of gold and he was going to loose his house, but in episode 10, he gladly jumps in the truck ready to leave for the season??? Anyone else notice that?

In reality, my guess is that they aren't the fools that the show is depicting them to be. While they are newbies to the mine, someone had the brains to set up that operation before they left OR. If you are watching closely at the equipment, you'll agree with me. They have some SERIOUS equipment. They just have to make it work, and tweak it in the field.

With all the scripting aside, I do feel for those guys in many respects. Take the Wave table for example. I once bought a screen press once that worked perfectly when I picked it up, but after I moved it to my place, I got it so far out of registration that I could get nothing printed...but had 2500 items stacked up to be printed. I got sick to my stomach, literally, thinking about the first month with that screen press while watching them fight that Wave table. In fact, I'm getting sick just typing this!!!! New equipment can be sooooo hard to figure out, and when your income is 100% based on it, it is VERY discouraging!!!

Nonetheless, I've enjoyed watching the show, despite the scripting and mistakes they made.

Just one more thought:

You are Earle Wilson, the claim owner. You are going to let a bunch of guys who supposedly know nothing about mining gold exploit your claim like that? I agree, most of these guys are new to gold mining, but there has to be some brains behind the project.

This show has been scripted to make them all look stupid, with hopes that the public will root for the underdog. How many more times will we have to hear Todd say "a bunch of guys can still risk it all to find gold, right here in America"?
