Drinking Goblet and Fish effigy? You make the call!

Found what appears to be a worked fish flint also an intact vassel with all the other pieces around it. Anybody got a I. D. or comment?

Whole, uncracked pots are extremely rare...tree roots, freezing, water all take their toll, conditions had to be just right for it to survive intact. Drying out should be a slow cool process. I agree BANNER FIND!!!

What's it made out of?

Made of clay.... Ones I have have pieces of shell in them......

This is a amazing find. Most pottery is found broken, cracked or piece's missing. To find one whole is exceptionally rare. My vote is in on this piece what a find!!!!!!!BANNER!!!!!!....................................Treat this piece with extreme caution..........................GTP

we learn the hard way. now when we find a whole pot.
we box it up in its own dirt. and tape it up.and set it in the house , and let it dry out very slowly.

Great point.

A lot of it depends on the soil type.

If you are digging in sand or small pebbles, you can usually remove any dirt and let the piece dry inside the house if needed (no direct sunlight.)

If you are digging in well drained sandy loam (regular dirt usually), and the piece is moist but not sitting in water wet, you can usually dig it out and let it dry slowly without the dirt. (Don't rub the dirt off with your fingers when you find it, as you will damage the outer layer and any paint.)

If you are digging in very wet clay (or under they clay on some sites) I try to take the piece out with all the dirt and let it slowly dry over several days. Clay expands when wet and shrinks when it dries, if there were any dry spots but not fully cured spots from when they fired the clay, you will get cracks when the piece dries.

We just fired a bunch we made from tn clay and crushed shell in a fire pit. It was a blast. I will try to post some pics. Our stuff looked kinda funny
