Ducky's Thread - Georgia Panning and Prospecting.

Welp, getting ready to hit the creek today. Going to take my drop riffle to run some stuff today. Also want to see what kind of difference in recovery between the drop riffle and bazooka. Not looking forward to classifying [emoji53]

Sadly, got a call about 20 min after I got to the creek that my wife's grandfather passed. Had to pack up and go home.

I did take a little video before I had to go

Sorry to hear of your loss.

PS did you paint that AM black?

This was a drop riffle given to me by Goldwasher. There is no name anywhere on it. I'm not even sure if he know what brand it is

Ducky with that low water flow you might want to get a small tarp from the 99¢ store and lay it over your small dam/waterway to essentially block all water flow around the sluice and direct it all into the sluice. So build your dam and create the spot for your sluice. Lay the tarp across the dam lengthwise, bring the tarp edge over the top of the dam about a foot or so just past the crest or high point of the dam area you plan to put your sluice. You will want to build up the dam height so the water will not fill up and flow over the top of the tarp. You will want 2-3 ft of tarp to extend toward the upstream side of the damn, lay it flat on the bottom/sides and place big rocks around the edges and scatter larger gravel across the top of it to hold it down to keep water from flowing under or around it. Position your sluice on top of the tarp into the opening in the dam that you created for it. You will want the beginning of or widest part of the flare at the opening point of the dam where all water is being directed into it. If you have some bubble wrap, that you can roll up into a 4" wide piece that the length will fit under the sluice and up the sides, you can place that on the damn between the rocks and the tarp so that the tarp is well formed to the sides of the sluice making a good tight seal.

You can Skype me if you have questions about this. [emoji106]

Why can I open this on my phone but not on my PC

Ha Ha. Bubble wrap :p. Look for floating pool cover bubble wrap not just the kind you pop.

I know that Sherry. I just wanted to clarify that you need monster bubble wrap. Not just your run o the mill packing material. A lot of things will work tho.

Just got my Garrett Super Sluice pan in. My lord, this thing is ENORMOUS. Cant wait to use it. Those big riffles in the front are going to help alot with the fine gold i deal with. i picked it up BRAND NEW for $13.

Cool, I like mine but they are really heavy! The prices on them sure have come down a lot over the years :) The deep riffles help a lot when you are dealing with high percentages of black sands in your paydirt...eliminates the problem smaller riffles create where each riffle fills with black sand and the gold skates across the filled riffles back into the creek :(

The Garrett Super Sluice is my "go to" pan of choice when sampling. Sometimes I'll put my 1/2" classifier on top but mostly just a 1/2 shovel full of material into a pan full of water and get to work. :icon_thumleft:

I use that for the first time ever this weekend. I had never had one of my hands before, and was very surprised at how robustly well-built these things are. We were dealing with the place with lots and lots of Blacksand… ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1432076633.225155.webpit sure seem to work wonderfully and we got a bunch of really fine gold out of it. You're gonna love that pan ducky.

Man, look at the wave of layers in that rock on the bottom of that picture!

Sorry for such a long delay in the posting, just havent had much to post about here. Going out tomorrow to sample a 6ft deep plunge pool on the ankle to mid shin deep creek i work. Also doing some prepping for when Kevin gets here next week. Looking forward to digging with him and getting pointers on running hte zook in such low flow. I will try and get video tomorrow of sampleing the plunge pool. Im going to have to leave the camera on land as all i really have for recording is an I-Phone.....

I'm excited to dig Georgia gold with you Ducky!
