I have been researching a site for quite a while and finally got access. To summarize, it is a early (1750) pre rev war site used by British and provincial troops to aid Cherokees and then used up through the Rev War.
My first trip up to scout it turned out better than expected as I dug 3 buttons, a fully intact shoe buckle (beautiful) musket balls and what I had Don Troiani confirm as an officer's waistbelt buckle.
Next trip was just as good with Greg Toney and I digging lots of period relics and then an absolutely, near perfect 1744 4 reale, another early shoe buckle (although broken but both halves found) and a great example of a rat tail pewter spoon. I have attached video of our hunt so you can see as it does a better job of telling story.

The buttons are few and all early and I expect them to be all unmarked as this site will probably be too early to have any numbered buttons.

Main campsite is about 400 feet away on another property we have yet to get permission on-working on that. I will post more pictures as I get the. Some nice iron, jack knifes have come out and they are in process of getting cleaned. Enjoy.

UNBELIEVABLE condition! Congrats and banner vote is in!

Hi Russ, it's been a while my friend! :hello:
Congrats on your finds, I really like the 1744 4 reale, the complete shoe buckle and of course the officer's waist-belt buckle! :occasion14:

Hope you've had a great year,
Dave

Stunning is an understatement as those coins are hard as hens teeth to find. I only know of one whole 4 reale that was recovered in eastern VA, and I highly doubt there are many others from other parts of the US. Congrats on a crazy-good find!!

Bill you keep forgetting about all the 4 reales that Beau (aquachigger) found in the water.

Amazing hunt Russ! The four reale is a beautiful coin. Love that British waist belt plate and the shoe buckles. Can't wait to see what you get out of there next time!

Steve-thanks. Thanks for comments. Hope you are well and waiting on your usual Spanish silver posts!

Give this old guy a break man ... lol. Yeah, I can never seem to remember those, but you have to consider that all those were found together and it technically only counts as one "find" when it comes to the frequency of 4 reale recoveries.

Unbelievable 4 reale. Everyone comments before mine said it best, so I'll just say BIG CONGRATS!

Phenomenal buckle as well.

As a banner worthy find for rarity and condition, my vote is going in.

Excellent hunt. It caught my attention when you mentioned the Overhill towns of Tennessee. I dug a nice trade axe at one years ago and of course Sam Houston in later years lived at one before his Alamo fame. Great documentation and research. Hope you can get permission for the property next door. Great hunt! TVA has put what little was left under water here.

Great research finding that site, and what a reward! That 4R is stunning! Nice vid too, I could feel the excitement.

That Reale is gorgeous! What a great find

Just digging the relics for the day is great, the 4 Reale is a sight to behold! Congrats on the beauty and so worthy of being up on the banner.

WOW! wow.... Incredible post. VERY well made video of some amazing finds. I had a great time watching it and I hope to see more from this site. The 4 reale, officer belt buckle and complete shoe buckles are just sick.

Congrats on an epic coin find! The buckles aren't half bad either. It is always nice to see research rewarded with such nice finds. I look forward to your next post.

Will post pictures of front and back today. In meantime, here are picturegreg knife.webpjackknife.webps of 2 different knives. Greg's (mid-cleaning) a great example and my smaller jack knife that was lost open-just started cleaning it.

Oh hell yeah! That 4R is ridiculous. Banner for sure. It will look great next to Peps GW 8-). I would love to find a 4. 98% of us never will

Finally had time to watch the video Russ. Great video and great finds. My Banner vote on the 4 reale is in.
