I have been researching a site for quite a while and finally got access. To summarize, it is a early (1750) pre rev war site used by British and provincial troops to aid Cherokees and then used up through the Rev War.
My first trip up to scout it turned out better than expected as I dug 3 buttons, a fully intact shoe buckle (beautiful) musket balls and what I had Don Troiani confirm as an officer's waistbelt buckle.
Next trip was just as good with Greg Toney and I digging lots of period relics and then an absolutely, near perfect 1744 4 reale, another early shoe buckle (although broken but both halves found) and a great example of a rat tail pewter spoon. I have attached video of our hunt so you can see as it does a better job of telling story.

The buttons are few and all early and I expect them to be all unmarked as this site will probably be too early to have any numbered buttons.

Main campsite is about 400 feet away on another property we have yet to get permission on-working on that. I will post more pictures as I get the. Some nice iron, jack knifes have come out and they are in process of getting cleaned. Enjoy.

Better than watching Star Wars any day! 4 reales is a tough enough denomination to find, but to get it in that condition is incredible. The beauty of not having a plow ripping through.

The only negative is like you mentioned it's probably too early for marked buttons.

Congratulations on your finds. People just don't know how rare these finds are in the upstate of SC due to the late settlements due to Indian occupation. Can't wait to see more finds. Definitely Banner worthy.

Stunning is an understatement as those coins are hard as hens teeth to find. I only know of one whole 4 reale that was recovered in eastern VA, and I highly doubt there are many others from other parts of the US. Congrats on a crazy-good find!!

The palmetto state representing! Beautiful 4 reale. I have a shoe buckle almost identical to your broken one found at an SC rev war site as well. Banner vote for your Spanish silver!

Man oh man!!
What a hunt! That 4reale is a banner find. People do you realize how hard it is to find a whole 4R in the us? I was lucky enough to find a cut one this year. And the open work shoe buckles are fantastic.
Your get my Banner vote on the 4R, rare to find and condition..

Thanks for all the comments-I have some more pictures I will post but video explains most. I will also post pictures of the coin front and back and cleaned-really have not done much with it.
I have dug a decent amount of 1 reales and half reales and cut ones, but this was very unexpected. I was expecting brass with the tone and not expecting that type of silver, let alone a 4 reale.

Greg and Russ - that has to be one of the best vids I've ever watched, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. That's a fantastic site you have there, and great job on the research. The 4 reale is an incredible find, and not only are they near-impossible to find, but the detail is flawless too. Can't wait to see what else you guys dig there, and make sure you post the videos. Merry Christmas .... Bill

Great video guys and even greater finds. An almost whole rattail spoon and a beautiful...I mean BEAUTIFUL 4 real..what a day! I think it was Bill D. who posted a link before to a publication on spoon makers marks. Maybe he'll post it if he can find it.

Thanks Bill-considering what you and Dan dig on a regular basis, that is great to hear. We are looking forward to this site and believe it or not, the main part of the camp is just about 400 feet away and we haven't obtained access yet! I am hoping some belt axes and good iron comes out of there.
Thanks again for comments.

Russ
