I had an awesome day today at the 1830's CW property. I finally was able to join the "Barber Club" with a 1906 "O" Barber dime. Yaba-daba-doo!!! I was hoping for an 1800's silver coin this year, but I'm VERY happy with this find. It only took me a year. :'( I also found two CW bullets, and a nice heavy mans ring with Indian design. All of these finds were made on the side yard that I have hit once before. The ring and one of the CW bullets I found right in the same area that I dug the CW Eagle belt plate a few weeks back. Must have been an active area? After today's hunt, I can see I need to pound that area a few more times, as I missed some decent finds.
I also found a military dog tag which was a first for me.
A great day indeed. I think the mojo between BDoo, Civilman, and I is working. ;D ;)
Here is the rundown of today's hunt:

*A 1906 "O" Barber dime. This is my oldest U.S. silver coin ever. According to my coin book, I think it would grade out at about an F12, since I can see all the letters of "LIBERTY" on the headband. The back has excellent shape detail still. My 2003 coin book shows an F12 as $40.

*A beautiful silver men's ring (heavy) with an Indian design on it. No markings inside. I cleaned it up and it came out beautiful. It fits me, so I may wear this one.
Any idea of it's age? I hope the same guy who lost his sword belt place lost this too, that way it would be CW era. ;)

*Military dog tag with "Frank Perkins 343405097 T42 44 O".
Any idea of it's age or how I could track this person or his relatives down so I could return it?

*Two CW 3-ringer bullets. The smaller one has a flat bottom. What type bullet would this be?

*Sunoco "Antique Car Coin Series" token with a 1918 Cadillac Landaulet on it.

*Round piece of lead with letters on it.

*A harmonica side piece with "Sousa's Band - Made in Germany" engraved on it.

*An 1800's lock front cover with an eagle and "W.W. & Co." on it.

*Asst'd other relics. Any idea what those two pointed pieces are? I've found one at the other farm property I hunt too.

So many questions, so little time. ::)
Thanks for looking and have a safe and happy holiday season.

Excellent finds! That dime is in awesome shape. You might want to try googling the guy's name that's on that tag. Happy Holidays! :o

Cool stuff! I agree, google the guy's name and see what comes up. Now you can begin another hunt by searching for info on the guy. seger

Gypsy,
You are awesome Girl !!! I just called and spoke to the wife at the # above. She said her husband Frank was sleeping, but he was an inductee in the service. He is 71 years old now. She sounded very excited, and was going to have him call me tomorrow.
That would be so cool if you found the right guy. It sure sounds like it may be.
Thank you,
Doug

Thanks Ev.
It took a long time, but I finally hit the right property I guess. That's one Barber, a 1868 IH (plus others), a few Mercs, and a piece of 8 real from this spot so far. I'm pretty jazzed.

Awsome dime, but i loved the harmonica case and Cadillac item as well.

From my research on a previous harmonica find, Hohner first exported to the US in 1879 using Richters name who was the inventor of the ability to create sound while inhaling into a harmonica in addition to blowing.
Richter used mostly silver reeds from 1857-1868. Just a guess that it might be a Richter.

Dang, that would be great if it is that old. I always find reeds, but never a full side piece. It will look great in a relic display.
Thanks,
MM

Beautiful finds! That Barber is in excellent shape!!! Good job.

Happy Holidays!

awesome day for you MM ! man that dime is perfect love the detail on it :o great finds and congrats MM :D

Thanks everyone. I knew when I dug that Barber it wasn't like any other dime I've dug before. I showed it to the property owner, and she was suprised there were still things like that in the yard. ;D

Thanks weasel.
I can clearly read all the letters in "LIBERTY", only the "B" is slightly worn. The back is even nicer than the front I think.
I'll need to rework that side yard sloooooooooooooooooowly next time. It was 80 degrees last time I hit it, and I was sweating. :D
Have a great holiday,
MM

Great dime and be carefull returning the dog tag it makes you feel great when talking to the owners family. :)

So you finally found a Barber...one HECK of a year for you, buddy! And what a nice dime to boot. Some really interesting items coming out of the ground for you lately. Nice work!
