Went to the field I have found several points in this year after the storms last night. I got two arrowheads and my first ax well I believe it's a ax. It's 3/4 grove. The cool part is how I found it. I was detecting and looking around at the same time when I saw a piece of nice flint. When I went to pick it up I stuck my shovel in the ground to free up a hand and it struck something. Around here there's not many rocks so I pried up on the shovel and the ax popped out of the ground. I couldn't Believe it. Of all places I stuck my shovel right on top of it, that must be 1 in a billon chance lol. HH!

Wow! I am thrilled for you, how exciting...great hunt!

Makes me wish I could look at this piece under magnification to try to determine if there were possibly two makers involved at two different times.. Or if one maker possibly believed the traditional way of hafting was better but liked the form of the newer tools.

It does remind me of a Celt. That's why I said I believe it's a ax, haven't seen one like it. Thanks again for all the comments. It's one of my best finds, it did make me drop to my knees lol!

After side by side comparison. It looks like it wasn't made from a Celt. There is a hump or raised area before the groove Where as you know celts are smooth

The axe supposedly predates the Celt. Gator and I have debated the grooved Celt. I say if a groove is present, it's an axe. This one makes me question myself.

It would be great if you could dig in the area you found it. Might be some other treasures in that spot, just saying it never hurts to look if you are allowed.

Yeah that would be nice. I plan on asking if I can dig a few pits soon.

You can always make sure they know you will fill the holes back in. Hope they let you
