First Ring Fake or Not??

I found my first ring on the beach about a month ago. I have had it checked at a local pawn shop and was told it was fake. My heart sank when I heard the news but I would not give anything for the experience of how I felt when I pulled the sand scoop up and seen the ring shining in the sun light. I have thought about having a real jewelry store check it out but was wondering if there was any kind of home test that could be done.

Heat a needle. Stick it into the "diamond" if it pierces it's obviously not diamond but some kind of plastic.

It's a start.

Also, take it to 2 or 3 or even 4 different places. A real jewelry store of fine quality as well as the pawn shops or less expensive jewelers. Try your local auction houses too. Often there are charity events which invite appraisers and for $5 or so you can have an item evaluated.
