I found my first ring on the beach about a month ago. I have had it checked at a local pawn shop and was told it was fake. My heart sank when I heard the news but I would not give anything for the experience of how I felt when I pulled the sand scoop up and seen the ring shining in the sun light. I have thought about having a real jewelry store check it out but was wondering if there was any kind of home test that could be done.

Fake or not its a nice ring. :)....aa

I'd still be happy finding that ring re-guardless of it being fake or not, nice find. Thanks for sharing.

Very pretty, how much do you want? ;) Seriously are there any markings on the inside of the band? Any markings will help. Great find!

I can not find any markings on the ring but there is a small hole behind each stone. I have been told that a diamond needs a small hole behind it so that it can breath. I don't know if that is true or not. There is seven large stones on the top and the band has 25 small stones completely encircling it. I will try to post more pictures soon.

That is a pretty ring. I've found quite a few nice rings that I'm sure are fake. One's that I'm suspicious of are in with the gold & silver finds...at some point this winter I'm taking them all to the jewelry store for identification. In the meantime I'll assume they are fake. Nice find.

By the look's of your avatar I hope that's "REMINGTON TIME".......Is that on your trail cam?Anyway, nice looking ring....keep us posted on the outcome.Congrat's and Happy Hunting!!

Nice going civilman1. You nailed them both. It does stand for Remington time and the pic is from a trail cam. Just to add to it he is still walking the swamp. I continue to get pics of him every couple of days. I must be in his backyard. Hope to see him in the next season.

Real or fake, that is a pretty ring. I would be proud to find one like yours.

A start would be to check inside the band and see if it has14k 10k 18k stamped on it.

better chance they are real stone set in gold. A jeweler can do a simple test for hardness in 5 seconds and tell you. Shouldn't cost you a thing.

Good luck.

The holes are to allow light to shine completely throught the stone. Nice find.

Nice ring. You never forget the first one. WTG. ;D

Looking at the quality of the setting and the workmanship involved with the band, I would say REAL with no problem. The markings inside would help. If it is Silver, it lessens the chances that the stones are real but White Gold or Plat is what I would expect and the stones definetly appear to be real. Usually the fake ones are much dazzeling and LARGE!!!!

Great find.

Drop us some information on the markings inside the band if they are still legible.

Nice ring whether they are real or not, I hope they are real for you, keep us posted.

Nice ring real or fake. Never take a ring to a pawn shop to see if it is real. They'll tell you it is fake and then offer to buy it from you for the heck of it saying they might sell it as costume Jewry.

If it is your first ring, give it as a nice gift or sell it on consignment at a jewelers. More will come in time.

Sandman,

You're absolutely correct on the pawn shop issue. A lot of people assume if you take stuff to the pawn shop they'll be honest with you. FALSE. I kept my first ring find (925 silver). Just for the fact that it was my first. Good point Sandman. HH to all. :)

If there are holes behind the diamonds that makes me think that they are real the holes arent so the diamonds can breathe its to let light through the diamonds to sparkle it could have been a custom made ring which wouldnt necessarily have a carat stamping on it

Judging by the setting, I'd say it's the real thing. Looks like it's been "retipped" on the prongs to ensure the holding of the gems. The stones appear to have different colors, also, which also points toward diamonds. Don't give up on finding a good answer, and don't give it away, either. -Noodle

Thanks for all of the support. Its making my heart race again with all the comments that it may be the real thing. Looks like I will be heading to a jewelry shop quicker than I anticipated.

Go to a small town jeweler. They're friendlier and won't charge you to take a look at it to tell you if it is real or not (real gems; diamonds). However, to give you an appraisal for value and insurance, expect to pay a small fee. -Noodle
