Was back on a CW battle site today that has been producing nice round balls, three ringers and shell fragments. Ran into an area with a lot of nails and got a good coin signal. Dug my first silver ever, a 1796 Mexican Republic 1/2 Reales coin. These were minted from 1792-1808. It can be found in the World Coin Gallery, km72. My hunting buddy Buckleboy was not with me today but I immediately gave him a call. He has insisted in the past that my first silver would not be something from the 40s or 50s. Little did I know it would be from another century! Great start for 2012! I made some corrections. The coin is a 1/2 reale. The World Coin Gallery has some mistakes.

Very nice find! :headbang:

WTG! Good Job!

That's a good one to break onto the silver club!

Awesome and Congrats great silver. If you found it among some nails you may have stumbled upon the remains of the paymasters shack. :sign10:

Fantastic start to the new year! Awesome reale.

Man, that is GREAT! I wish I'd been there to see the look on your face.

Sounds from your description on the phone to me that you dug a Gardiner bullet out there too, along with the usual shell fragments and other bullets. That's a great find too!

Killer day for you today--and I can't wait to get back there and dig the heck out of that site. I knew it'd just be a matter of time for that property to cough up something good.

Large Cent is next, buddy.

Cheers,

Buck

If you were going to find a first silver, that is the way to do it... Congrats :icon_thumright:

Imagine the stories that coin could tell. Congrats :headbang:

Add some of those relic photos to the post! Cmon! :blob7:

I wanna see the CW stuff too.

Congrats Shane. You have a great teacher and that's only the first of great finds to come from that site. You beat me one year as the first Reale I dug was 1797 in Confederate lines too. HH, Quindy.

finding your first 18th century silver and than Confederate lead should definetly keep your goals high.

Congrats and can hardly wait to see what's next from that site.

Bill
