Was hunting a lane that goes back to the river and got a loud high tone I thought aluminum can but raised my coil and sound went away so I dug it. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the big silver in the plug. I cleaned off with water bottle and thought I had an old one but turned out to be a 2001 silver dollar. I don't care I'll take it. I also found another coin about 50 feet away and I was on cloud nine and I cleaned it off and saw it was a readers digest token. It doesn't matter I still got my first silver dollar! Going back to this path again soon. Thanks for looking. image-2117521865.webp image-92063277.webp image-1498305912.webp image-4285198589.webp image-2045118603.webp

Nice dollar. How old do you think the token is?

Great find on the silver dollar! Worth $20 - $30 on Ebay. HH.
wife already tried to get me to list it on eBay. Lol not going to happen it's going to go Into safe keeping with all my other silver coin digs and jewelry digs. My hope is that someday my kids will be able to enjoy these finds when I'm long gone. If there was a way to find the owner of this coin I would give it back but I doubt that would be very possible. It's not a ring or jewelry. If I asked around if anyone lost a silver dollar I'm sure I would get a few telling me they lost it lol. This path is on public property so not even a landowner to ask.

Considering the chances of finding another one in your detecting career, $30 would not even begin to scratch the surface of its actual value to you! I'm sure your kids will enjoy it so much more when they think about how lucky you were to have found a silver eagle on some public path,,,,what are the chances? Isn't that what keeps us all in the hobby? We just never know what is going to show up on our next hit.

exactly and well said. Thanks

Congrats on the find. Even though it is not old, that is a killer find.

I am amazed at how many ASE's are dug. Sweet find!

Thats what i was thinking...I remember someone finding one not long ago....and its sad that i remember it because of the debate of it being a "Silver Dollar" or a 1 Oz round..lol

Killer Find Koidak!!!, that would get my heart pumping

from the research I've been doing it is pretty rare to find one metal detecting unless someone buried a jar full of them for safe keeping which wasn't the case with mine. It was all by its lonesome and now it has a warm house to stay in lol. It's given a numerical dollar amount because it was minted by the treasury from what I understand. They are made to collect or for investment def worth more than the dollar it has as a value on it. I still think it was lost by a kid going to the river to do some fishing or something of that nature. I'll prob never know but it looks to have been in the ground for a while with all the corrosion on it. I've cleaned it once and will again tonight. I'm feeling lucky now be hard to top that but a older one or a gold coin would sure help :) but I'm not holding my breath.

Your chances of finding something better are higher than you think.

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

One of them is high on my list....well done..nice looking silver for saure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super find ! I have found two American Eagles in the past two years . I believe that kids are bringing them to school for show and tell and then losing them in the play field . Much harder to find than a silver dollar , congrats !

wow I would of never thought these would be out there to find since they weren't circulated. I wouldn't mind finding another but if this is the only silver eagle I find it will be okay prob a very small amount of detectors swing over these.
