Loaded up the boat, packed the metal detectors, grabbed my cameraman, and of course brought my dog Slash along for the adventure. This time, we headed out to a saltwater bay near the Atlantic Ocean to put the Fisher AQ Impulse, White’s TDI Beach Hunter, and Minelab Manticore to the test.

What surprised me most was the environment. Once we got out there, the sand was completely different from the beaches I previously tested in Morehead City and Ocean Isle Beach. This location had darker, black mineralized sand mixed in, creating much tougher conditions than I expected.

We set up real-world underwater tests in high-salinity saltwater, just a couple hundred yards from the Atlantic, tucked behind the breaker barrier where the waves were calm but the conditions were still challenging. Targets included:
• 10-inch nickel
• 8-inch nickel
• 12-inch deep 4-gram gold ring

This one brought some very interesting results and may challenge a few assumptions. If you’ve been wondering how these machines perform when beach conditions change and mineralization increases, you’re going to want to see this.

Stay tuned, watch the results, and drop your thoughts in the comments. This test has a lot to talk about.
