Got back out to the lot I have been digging at my favorite fort. There is so much iron in a portion of the lot I got permission to dig a small test pit. It was a small pit maybe 2foot by 2 foot and maybe a foot or so down. The hole was loaded with large iron spikes. After I removed them there were Goodies to be found. The most intriguing find is this brass plate. Front and back pictures I posted. I have no idea what it may be?? Any idea would be most appreciated.
A couple buttons and 3 musketballs to follow along with the remains of a dagger. I decided to cover it up and wait for cooler weather next month for a bigger dig. Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!!

Now that's a nice selection of recoveries from a test pit.
Liking the gun flint and the US button.
That is a cool key hole escutcheon.
Best of luck on the digging in the cooler weather.
