Heck, I thought these were morrow mt. Points. You think these are only a couple hundred years old? I haven't found any gun flints in the field that these came from. However, I haven't specifically been on the look out for flints. Different sites, different focus. You know. The spike looking points and the ones that look a little like a crude Morrow Mountains are refereed to as Randolph types in N.C. region. Likely the other crude stuff are the same period. Only a few hundred years old (1725-1800). Indians had became dependent on firearms then had to revert back to bows/arrows when firearms/ammunition became scarce and there flint napping skills were now poor.
Spikes? I know which ones the 'spikes' are, but I always thought they were drills. There's a 'point' spike? --Or, what is a spike- what's it's use. I've never heard that term before and need some education. Thanks in advance. Yakker
Thank you sir!!I have what is called a Bradley spike and a Tn River Spike. Nice hunt N.C!
Thanks Gator. I can't help but lean toward early archaic on my finds. I say that because of the lithic (higher grade), the striking resemblance to the morrow mt., and the site on which they were found. Less than 20 yards from where I found all of these archaic finds are the only finds. The guy that farms this land expanded his field. I can't remember this land ever being plowed. On second hand, I'm not arguing because I haven't heard of spikes, let alone studied up on em.We have a Florida spike here its early archaic for the most part. Nice haul <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=986294"/>
Thanks for the input guys!!Some areas they would be called Bradley Spikes. I think you do have a MM in the bunch to. That long better made one. Most Randolphs were made from flakes/debiege or older arrowheads found laying around and date 1725-1800. (That's how Coe describes and dated them in an article I read) Some others have the dates Historic 1550-1800. There the last stone arrowheads in the Piedmont.Heck, I thought these were morrow mt.
