Well, I went back to the area where I found that IH last week that cleaned up so well. No many targets left (Brendan really worked this area hard). Hit a rather odd sounding target and thought for sure it was a small piece of foil. To my surprise, out popped this:

I could only tell it was an IH by the back. The front, well... not in great shape

This is how it cleaned up. Looks like an 1875

Oh, here's the other part of the story. While I was MD'ing, something caught my eye. In the distance was this strange lookin' dog walking toward me. Didn't take long to figure out what it was :)

No foam dripping from that fox's lips....just from your fellow treasure hunters!!!
Since I've never found an IH penny and you folks say it can signal strange...think I'll go buy one to set under my coil for training purposes. Maybe once my coil learns the scent, he'll track one down for me!
Very nice finds.

It's not the IH that sounds funny... it's the condition of the IH in the ground and all the stuff that's around it that makes it sound "weird".

Ooooh. Thanks for explaining it! I need to slow down and dig everything.

Must be something about the beeps a detector makes that draws in the animals.I had two coyotes a week ago trying to circle me up and figure out what was making the noise.I guess the females are having pups or something and the beeps sound like a puppy whine.Gets there curiosity going.Congrats on the finds.

NIce looking IH..the copper color sure came through on that one after you cleaned it.

WTG

I hunted many years in Forest Park in the middle of St. Louis, it was big enough and wooded in a couple of spots, that there used to be a pair of red foxes out there for about 3 years. I would see them on many nights I hunted out there, I've had them come to within 20 feet of me before. They would always jump the fence into the Zoo every evening to go find food, and return to their den in a wooded thicket by morning. It was pretty cool seeing them out there and being reminded of how adaptable wildlife can be even in the middle of a big city. That park also had turkeys and coyotes over the years come and go.

excellent find joe congrats

Great pictures of the fox, Joe! And awesome on the Injun find! It's odd how sometimes coins ring-up at odd numbers, isn't it? My first Indian rang up in the 20's? ??? :D Never know what it's gonna be....

Congrats! Nana :)

Word of caution.. not sure where you are.. but here in Virginia... a Fox out in the day time.. that let's itself been seen is a bad thing... we have had too many rabid ones!! When I was younger.. a "few" years ago(1982).. I shot 2 foxes and over 12 raccoons that all tested positive as rabid in one summer on my parent 10 acres... it go to the point where Animal Control would just tell me not to handle them... wrapped them in a garbage bag and bury them when I called!!! How is that for public service!! We have had one, last year.. that was in my yard.. weaving back and forth.. acting strange... he got away before I could get a rifle and track him... but be careful..

an NO.. to the animal lovers out there.. I ot go around just shooting them.. but when you see one acting like that.. it is pretty easy to tell that something is really wrong.. with tow boys, 6 and 10, out playing making as much noise as mine do.. no normal animal would ever get with in a mile of them!!!

nice coin you discoveried  Red foxes are known here in florida too to be carriers of rabies so always be careful.

Hey all,
Pennsylvania is the same way. :icon_study:We are always warned to stay away from them. :stop: Ever get torn up by a really mean Kitty cat? :tard:Take that times about 500! They are very quiet and fast and won't even make a sound while they are tearing you up! They are like four legged furry Perhana fish. (excuse my spelling :icon_study:...lol.)

Nice injun there Joe,
Cleaned up better then I do.lol
