Hi all,

I thought I'd just come up with the usual finds at a typical school playground, but just before I left I dug this up.

BULLET1.jpg

What's more frightening is that it was a misfire..the firing pin had already struck the cartridge but the bullet never fired..looks like it was actually struck twice.

BULLET2.jpg

This may very well mean there could have been a loaded gun on school property, rather than finding a single bullet some kid may have taken to school (which is bad enough).

Has anyone else found any kind of weapon/ammunition on school grounds? I guess it just refects the times we live in..pretty sad.

Nat,
You see what you started now? ;D
Stick to digging rings, it's safer. ;)

I found used needles in a tot lot once, I assume they were heroin needles...creepy stuff

Looks like a "Wadcutter" round..........custom loaded target round to punch a perfect circle in the target. But a school is no place to be using them. Misfires in centerfire ammunition is fairly uncommon with todays ammo, it's possible that it is an intentional "Dummy" round used for what's refered to as "Smoking" a bullet ,when working up a custom load.

PS.... There's plenty of room for all of god's wonderful creatures.........right next to the mashed potatoes!

I dig a lot of those out in the woods.

It is sad knowing that some dudes get pleasure in killing innocent animals. :(

You can not be serious......I would love for the animal lovers to see what life would be like if not for hunters. The deer population is out of control even with hunters. If you have never seen a deer who does not have enough food let me tell you...It is the most gruesome sight i have ever seen. The become all emaciated and their fur becomes all splotchy. Needless to say Not only would they be forced into the cities to find enough food to survive they would become disease ridden and cost us many a problem. So In the words of Darryl Hall.....KILL EVERY DEER YOU SEE.....(and there will still be more than the food supply supports).

Now onto the original posters question. I have found a bag full of fired bullet casings and also spent lead on the playgrounds.....I never knew if kids were firing them there or if they brought them in to show their friends. It is a scary thought though......I have also found knives on playsets. Just another reason for metal detectors in schools. I think if you took that to the school and showed them they would beg for more people to metal detect their property just to prevent some innocent little guy from getting hurt somehow. GJ and glad to see that off the chips!!!

I will be out hunting all day today. I will be sure to post pix for you of my poor innocent animal. I am sure the animal I shoot will be far from innocent though...He is wanted for destruction of a poor farmers crops in the second degree....Wrecking Mary Joe Rotten Crotch's BMW in the 3rd degree and pooping on my lawn ( A class A felony). He will be found guilty on all charges in a court of ME and sentenced to DEATH! By firing squad of course. Would you like to do last rights?

HEHE sorry I had to pick on ya... ;)

Like everyone else I find lots of bullets and even loaded shells at school yards. I never found one like yours though. Probably some kid brought it for "show n tell."

Back in the old days if we got a misfire shell we'd send it into Remington and they'd send us a certificate for a box of free shells.

Well I was doing just fine over here

But now it has just dawned on me......I'm missing deer season!!!! D@mmit!!

Oh well, there's always next fall.

Beyond that, I'm not taking the bait

Nat it is always nice to find coins , jewelery and such but I think that could be one of your most important finds ever . I worry everyday about stuff like that I have 2 daughters 13 and 14 it's a scarey world these days.

I have found unfired bullets and shell casings. I am not a gun person so I don't know what they were. I did bring in the unfired bullets and gave them to my boss who has a police officer friend.

It is pretty scary.

Old ammo is scary stuff, it might be unstable, it might be capable of going off, it might be completely dead. I drop off dug live rounds at fire dept., don't want my kids finding them in my junk boxes.

Remember too, playground areas not always used by tots...some are teen gangsta hang outs too.

Don't know about you guys but here a bullet will get you a 10 day suspension from school.

Again that is a scary find, I'm glad you got it out of there.

Thanks for all your replies, even if we tend to bounce to and from the original topic ;D

I hope I didn't worry you too much, the bullet was found about 6 miles from us, across the highway in another district that's not in the greatest area of town..still it's good to make every attempt to keep our kids safe any time they're away from home and away from our view.

Around here all the kid would have done was "show". The "tell" part would have been talked about in the Principal's office ;D

I have a whole bag of casings and unused cartridges I've dug..I even found a 9mm round in a front yard near the sidewalk and 2 .3030 rifle catridges in another front lawn up the street (the guy who previously owned the house was an avid deer hunter..luckily he didn't hit them with the lawn mower!)

Personally, I would not contact the police or school. It may get turned around on you and you will have to explain, why you were there, what you were doing...etc. They might be suspicious about your motives since it concerns a school.

They can't do anything about it anyway. The good thing is... that you did get it out of the schoolyard so it can't do any damage now.

I have found at least ten loaded bullets, 20 fired leads, and ten knives in schoolyards this season so far.

Keep em coming Nat!! Good luck.

;D

I don't have anything to hide so that doesn't bother me. I did try to contact them yesterday and couldn't get through to a human being with their automated phone system. I'm going to just let things be for now..I keep track of what's happening at the schools around here, and there haven't been any incidences in that school or district as far as I know.

There were bullets found in a toilet at my son's high school last spring, which stirred up quite a bit of concern from parents, then there was a bomb threat shortly after school began, costing them to make up the day next year. Quite a different world from when I was young.

If the innocent animals are in the woods, does that mean that the farm grown ones we eat are not innocent! What were they guilty of? Hmmmm.

If it wasnt for hunters you wouldnt have your animals to look at bud.Hunters have given millions of dollars to police hunting and for habitat, what have you gave????Or any association you probably belong too??And your government pays millions of dollars(your money) to guys like me to control animals because hunters cant!!!

uh for safetys sake at least pull the lead off and dump the powder out -- with that primer like that it could go off quite easy -- (most likely its a dud and will not but why take the slimmest chance with it? == use you brains rather than lose your brains) --- that said the bullets that were left by hunters aren't from current times but from long before the schools were built --- hunters would never put ammo in a area where kids are at --- * and if you eat meat --animals die for you to eat meat (weither you personally kill them or not is up to you) but even if you don't kill them directly yourself, they are killed for you by folks who are honest with themselves and say --yep I'm a meat eater , so animals must die ---- and if you don't eat meat, you can thank us meat eaters and hunters for removing the excess animals that would otherwise eat up all the plants that YOU do want to eat if they were not "removed" -- Ivan
