Hi all,

I thought I'd just come up with the usual finds at a typical school playground, but just before I left I dug this up.

BULLET1.jpg

What's more frightening is that it was a misfire..the firing pin had already struck the cartridge but the bullet never fired..looks like it was actually struck twice.

BULLET2.jpg

This may very well mean there could have been a loaded gun on school property, rather than finding a single bullet some kid may have taken to school (which is bad enough).

Has anyone else found any kind of weapon/ammunition on school grounds? I guess it just refects the times we live in..pretty sad.

Several years ago one of the cub scouts that I was the leader of found a whole pistol in the ditch in front of our elementary school. We turned it in to the County sherriff.

hard to argue with that logic -- if you eat meat -- that means animals die for you to eat--- either you do it yourself or the "butcher "does it for you really doesn't matter -- so save the "holier than thou stuff"--if not your a veggie eater and fighting all the other veggie eaters for "food" --- by meat eaters eating the animals that eat the plants you want to eat we make it possible for you have food to eat -- otherwise the animals would over breed and eat up all the plants and both you and the "grazing" animals would then starve to death since you don't want to "kill" the animals ------- even in the animal world meat eating animals help to maintain the balance to keep the plant eaters in check this prevents "overgrazing "of a area by plant eaters.

go take a good look in your bathrom mirror --- the teeth in your head tell you alot -- look at cows -- flat teeth means veggie eater --- look at dogs -- sharp teeth -- means meat eater ---look at the human mouth a mix of flat "molars" and sharp "canine" teeth thus we were meant to eat both grains and meats -- we are omnivores ( basically put we eat anything that does not eat us first) ---

p s -----miss o hoping your enjoying the venison --from that mean ole doe --- Ivan

I dig a lot of those out in the woods.

It is sad knowing that some dudes get pleasure in killing innocent animals. :(

LMAO....too funny!!!

Oh and Ivan...Well put.....I will be eating fresh back straps for dinner tonight!!! But not to worry I still have 2 more tags!!! My best friend is a Vegan and he fully supports me hunting. He knows that we need the balance to manage the heard. Years ago the bear and coyotes and others would maintain the animal population.....Now since we do not allow the bear and others in our towns...(people freak if they see them). The hunters need to pick up the slack. If there was no need to kill the animals they would not issue tags.....There has been plenty of times I did not get a doe tag because the heard could not support killing too many. It is well managed and as long as im allowed I will kill and eat venison for 3 reasons... 1. I am not rich...50 dollars to buy a tag and butcher a deer gives me 80-120 lbs of meat. 2. I like killing things 3. I do my part to help ensure the herbivores have a steady supply of food to eat.

;D

I would not report it to the school officials.

"What are you doing hanging around a school?"
"Metal detecting?"

Nat, that misfire is kind of spooky. Wouldn't it be safer to take some pliers and pull the lead slug off the brass casing. I have seen relic hunters on tv tell about cannon ball over 100 years old that still had gunpowder in them that could still make a bang.

Good thing you found that bullet. Some kid might have found it and started throwing it down onto concrete to try and make it go <bang>....

Kirk,
I don't agree. While hunting includes the killing of prey, over the last century there has emerged strict sets of regulations (administered state-by-state by wildlife agencies) to limit the hunters' take of an animal and a voluntary code of ethics that includes making sure that animals don't suffer unnecessarily as a result of anything the hunter may do. Hunters have also worked hard and dramatically improved their safety record over the last 50 years, making hunting one of the safest outdoor activities. Also, hunters and anglers purchase licenses, stamps and tags and the license fees go to manage fish and wildlife. This user-paid method of paying for wildlife management is part of the "North American Model of Wildlife Management." This model holds that wildlife agencies hold wildlife in the public trust for the benefit of all citizens. In addition hunters donate hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of hours of their time to undertake projects that benefit game animals and all wildlife.

YEAH!... What he said.

Very scary find.

I have found a few un fired bullets in school yards my self, One I took to the school administers the next day and they just said they were not too worried about it. this was also in Colorado, but it was pre Columbine.
I dont know that there would be much of a change if I found another one and took it too them.

The sources can be anything, if a kid finds something he thinks is cool he is gonna play with it. he is gonna show it too friends. Nothing makes a 7 to 12 year old kid more hard core to his buddies than to have some item that they are not supposed to have. Just be thankful that in this country we dont have land mines to worry about.

I was suggesting that reporting such a find to school administrators would subject the finder to a lot of questioning.

Early this year I turned in to the local police some shotgun shells a previous tenant left in our apartment storage area and had to fill out forms and show my driver's license.

Hunters really love animals - everyone I know who hunts, loves animals. One of the very first thing a hunter does (whether they realize it or not), after they shoot a deer, bear or elk, is go over to it, and pet it.

That is too funny....It is true...thinking back I have Never seen a dead deer without petting it...lol

Dismantle the shell, and forget about saying a word - if it wasn't fired, it can;t be matched to a gun. Besides, it's amazing how many law enforcement officials are dim enough to decide YOU are suspicious because you came to them with something of interest.................................
