Found these on my propety.. take a look

First off like to say i really enjoy all your posts. Been lurking here off and on for years.
I just moved to the out skirts of Lower Lake Ca. I've been a mder for about 15+ years,
so my eyes are pretty well trained on the ground.
I got a natural spring on my property that has been used by the native Americans.
Haven't found anything earth shattering yet but really enjoy looking and finding arrowheads and other
possible tools they used.
I don't have much knowledge about Indian artifacts but would love to learn.
What i do know is this is Pomo nation and they got roots here longer than 8000+ years according to one of
the books on Lake County history.
I welcome any wisdom and any of these artifacts.

Very nice! So they look very close to what I find in quartz here. The flat sides are they made that way or are they broken at the base? I believe you said you found them in California?

Welcome aboard. Nothing like having a place close by and digging some history. That spring has run for many years it looks like. Nice finds. We have some guys that find artifacts in your area. Kuger and Bosnmate. Glad you joined and feel free to jump in any time.

You are right broken or unfinished. Some of that material may have been used as is. It was sharper than a razor and a sliver could skin any animal. Bosnmate send me some great study examples from there. It seems to be a little more brittle than my local cherts. Have you dug any? There is nothing any prettier than obsidian.

I love obsidian. It's rare to find even a flake in my area. I have found a few pieces, but it lacks the mirror like shine of the western obsidian. I wouldn't think that your pieces were knapped directly by the water supply. I'm not sure, but it just seems to me that far to many bare feet would stomp around water sources. My best uneducated guess for these pieces being by water is, water was necessary for whatever job these were made for. They could have been cleaning fish or any wild game. Maybe curing hides?? I also think you have more than one complete piece posted above. These are all thoughts that bare reason to me. Don't take my word as expert advice.

I agree with N.C. Some of those do look like possible gravers and unifaced scrapers.

All eye ball finds. Only thing i dug up was a few large rim-fired shells

great points, got some drills and a few scrapers, nice to see them, i like the black, (black glass?) stone, i have a friend that has found a big block on a reservation, that has chunks missing from being made into point, HH :thumbsup:

)I dont talk much about "artifact",gathering,but do know a little about it....

The unique thing about Clear Lake is the source of several obsidian outcrops the Indians had there.Konocti being one of the bigger ones.This made the local Indians quite wealthy and also allowed them to get really good at the art of making blades points etc.Other tribes that had to trade for their obsidian were not so lucky,and had to reuse their tools until they were pretty much useless.I have seen some mind blowing size and craftsmanship in the tools there!When the water recedes in dry years it used to be common to find cracked in half grinding bowls as Pomo tradition was to break a deceased womans bowl and toss it in the lake

Eric also if you havent studt the Bloody Island Massacre and visit it if you can...very interesting.I love that area....spend a lot of time there

Beautiful stuff. That material is rare here in Ohio.

I read once where modern surgeons are experimenting with Obsidian scalpels, it flakes sharper than the sharpest steel, and the cuts heal faster.
