Friday's CW relics - Lead and a KEEPER!

After work today I hit the spot I've been detecting where they are clearing for a new road. Within 30 minutes I had two CW bullets. Next time I'll try to get a vid of me digging one up. This is the closest I got on film today unfortunately:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-l2GqSlFFE

I found some more asst'd items after the CW bullets including a large chunk of lead, and a coin that turned out to be a 66' Nickel. :tongue3:
One of the bullets is an Enfield with the wood plug still in it! Once it dries a bit, I'll take the plug out to see if there is a # or symbol inside.
A coworker that just ordered a Tesoro like mine showed up to watch me a bit. By this time I was hot, sweaty, and about fed up with those darn gnats. As I worked my way back towards my truck, I got a good signal on a slight dirt hill that was freshly piled up.
About 4" deep I dug up a CW BELT KEEPER!!!
This is the 2nd belt keeper from this site. Bob dug one here last week too. This is only my second belt keeper since I began detecting. Ya-hooo! That makes two knapsack hooks and two belt keepers from this spot along with about 20 bullets.
A pretty good afternoon indeed.
Have a great holiday weekend Folks,
MM

Thanks for the great video MM! It was a thrill to watch.

Most Certainly. ;D

But you'd have to successfully complete the Iron Brigade training program. :D We'll do a video of it someday.

I think it's something like #1 Get lost in the woods #2 Wander around with a GPS unit for three hours and #3 Dig a trunkload of iron

Well...those are the first three steps.

LMAO!!! ;D ;D ;D
Don't forget #4.....Being able to lay in the woods surrounded by poison ivy and not getting ANY on your skin. :tongue3: Now that is a real skill. You guys (& gal) amaze me.

Civil,
That's the THIRD plugged Enfield from this site in about a week.
That reminds me, I have to go take the plug out to see if anything is inside. I'll be right back.............................

Civil,
I'm back. Today was my lucky day. There was a #57 inside the base. Here's a picture.
That's my second #57 Enfield from this site, and my third ever. The third one I found last year across the road about 1/8 mile away.

Really good video, enjoyed it.

Re: Friday's CW relics - Lead and a KEEPER!

The "57" is awesome....Beautiful Dig's

Re: Friday's CW relics - Lead and a KEEPER!

Thanks everyone for you great replies. They are very much appreciated and help feed my hunger for this wonderful hobby.

Now maybe I'm reading too much into this but............. when I was looking over the large chunk of melted lead I found at this site, I notice a small pointed piece of ash/charcoal stuck into it. I couldn't help but imagine the soldiers sitting around killing time by carving bullets, playing harmonicas, and who knows what. :icon_scratch: Anyways, I pictured someone melting this blob of lead around a fire. Did it start out as bullets? What really has me puzzled though is, how did this one pointed piece of coal/ash get into this melted lead with no other signs of coal of ash on the bottom? :icon_scratch: ??? :icon_scratch: ??? I pictured a soldier possibly pushing a pointed stick into the hot lead just for fun, but that still wouldn't explain why there was no other coal or ash on the botton of this piece. :icon_scratch:
Am I thinking to hard on this, or is it JUST a piece of lead? :icon_scratch:
Would you CW relic hunters hang on to this piece or pitch it?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
MM
