Glass ceiling?? Back in the late 70/early 80 I dated a dredger gal in Carson city Yvonne S-own bikes,detectors,dredges and LOVED to party like a madman....me. Lynn Gunn RIP dear lady had her own 5" precision on the trinity when we met back in mid 80s and later she also ran the 10" nozzle herself. All my wives mined,as long as they lasted anyhow I've never been a fan of women in a camp much though as close quarters under primitive conditions does bring trouble repeatedly from many years of experience. A group experience good,small mine op not so much-John

No I'm saying a man couldn't ask for a better partner for a mom pop deal but much more complicated when dogs are around who do not believe in marriage vows at all. Women dredgers rock AND sure look MUCH better in wetsuits than us fellas for sure -John

Dredging is a non-gender mining experience that fits both genders well.

The corndog politicians should realize just how many people they're denying the right to enjoy the great outdoors.

The term dredging should be deleted from every reference to the activity and replaced by surface suction sluicing. The name dredge should be removed by every manufacturer as well. There's just too much baggage attached to the word "dredge" and a lot of it is left over from the late 1800's and early 1900's and rightfully so. Those monster bucketline dredges did leave entire wastelands behind them.

What we do today only briefly alters the stream and the fall or spring storms quickly remove any signs of our passing. What's left is clean, highly oxygenated, silt free gravel that's prime for spawning. I've watched the fish methodically choose those surface suction sluice gravels (SSS mined gravels) over the natural ones over and over again. The fish know something about gravel that's best for spawning in, and that's why they choose it. By the way, to kill opposition, there shouldn't be any SSS mining (surface suction sluice mining/Triple-S mining) when any spawning seasons are on, period. So, there goes any argument by greenies or enviro-nazi's about that element.

Perhaps California needs to organize any renewal of SSS mining (as demonstrated, the term can easily be shortened to Triple-S Mining, or to Triple-S) to clearly protect spawning seasons in order to kill the hate lobby organized around those events.

You got me thinking Lanny. Here in Az on our Roadrunner claims, we have restrictions on when we can prospect in certain areas. I am pretty sure that is has nothing to do with fish spawning. But, I think it has to do with other species, like Bald Eagles. Seems that you may be onto something. Restrict SSM during spawning times.

You got me thinking Lanny. Here in Az on our Roadrunner claims, we have restrictions on when we can prospect in certain areas. I am pretty sure that is has nothing to do with fish spawning. The reason you have timing and size restrictions on the Roadrunner claims has nothing to do with wildlife or laws. Your id*%t club officers made a bad mistake and signed a single POO for all of their Prescott NF claims back in 1998 or so. Since then you get new arbitrary restrictions and fees every few years.

The rest of us mine when we please and have no restrictions on dredge size.
