Found this matchsafe while hunting along the sandy hill of a river earlier this month. It looks to be gold gilt but I cannot find any makers mark on it. This is the way it came out of the ground... I havent even wiped it off. Where the gilt is gone it seems to be copper underneath. Any ideas on maker?

Gypsy,
What a cool find, and in fantastic shape too.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, but could the maker be Zig Zag? ;D Looks like an item I could have used back in the 70's. :o ;D
Congrats,

Great find Gypsy! That sure is a pretty piece. Fitting for its owner ;D

Just my suspicious nature, I guess, but Kenner was a toymaker; maybe McSancho could list some of their more notable products. ;D

A beautiful object for a beautiful lady!

WOW, after reading RR's website on these match safes, you have a real find there Gypsy.

Thank You everyone....I found it with the Prizm 2, about four inches....I love that machine when hiking in to remote places...so lightweight and very accurate .I had been digging alot of iron items all from the early 1900's and when the gold tone hit I thought I was hearing things ....I started digging and it was pretty easy in the sandy soil , lost the tone a couple of times and then it started jumping from silver to iron to gold real fast....saw that first glint of color and happy happy gypsy ! :)
Definitely something that I will keep not sell...... have it on my desk with my other special treasures ........some things just put a smile on your face and keeps it there ;)
Thanks again!

Nice Gypsy.
Anything inside?

That is a great find Gypsy. It is in great condition for coming out of the ground. Way to go. I would not sell it either. Keep up the great work. It would look great on your desk or in a shadow box.
