Gun control petition to White House gets large and immediate support online

I agree civil and, as much as I enjoy having my guns, not just for protection and hunting, but also the enjoyment of target shooting, I would give them up in a heartbeat and never pick up another one if it would bring back just one of those children. It's not the guns that are important, it's the right to own them. Mine are locked up in a gun safe. Only my wife and sons know the combo. Not giving my sons the combo wouldn't change anything if one of them were to go off. They have their gun safes with the same weapons I have and we all share the same combo.

Almost all gun owners own what they have for a reason. Generally most honest well deserving people own guns for protection, hunting, or collecting its the few and stupid who make the good guys look bad.

When you start talking liberal, conservative, rep, dem, your making the thread political, if you want it left open keep the politics out of it.

Ok let me just say. You mentioned the L word the other day. Oh no:() you sir should let this conversation ride. It's a national tragedy to not let men and women discuss current affairs in our country. This is your country isn't it?

You want to discuss politics go to a political forum, TreasureNet is not the forum for it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. 15 seccession petitions have gotten 25,000 signatures also. Nobody is going to secede. At least not this year. The mood of this country is not for gun control and if a politician knows how to do one thing well its put his finger in the wind. The Congress is not motivated to pass any gun control legislation.

Ooops!!! Well back to what I was saying about treasure hunting. :)

I think it all goes back to education, defining what is right and wrong, or at least what is tolearted in our society. I know a teacher of elementary students(5th grade I think), and he told me about the day after the Columbine shooting, he was asking his pupils their thoughts on the shooting. One boy in particular said he thought it was cool. If his attitude doesn't change as he gets older, guess what may happen. This boy would have been around 11 at the time. He sent a note home to his parents, but some kids have little, if any parental guidance. Some only know what they see on TV or play in video games. There needs to be a reality check for some of the students to seperate fact from fiction. Sorry for my rant, Good Luck. rockhound

Shooters like this are clearly insane, how we deal with these people are part of the problem.

They say, "how can you send a person to trial that needs mental help? He didn't know what he was doing"......

Well if he is nuts (obv.), then there is no reason to keep him around.....PUBLIC EXECUTION, as it used to be, as a deterrent for the next nut job. No Mercy.

agreed i said this on a diff forum and got an earful. I dont care if he has a disease got hit in the head as a baby what ever excuse the lawyers come up with it doesn't change what they did and the punishment should be the same no matter what is wrong in their noggin.

Or he could of been one of the little punks trying to sound cool and tough in front of his peers. You have to take what little kids say with a grain of salt.

I remember when kids in school started wearing black trench coats after columbine. I used to sucker punch them in the parking lot before school every day... until the day they stopped wearing them. I know it sounds mean and yes it was but hey there are consequences for what you do/show support for.

The only way to stop this kind of thing is restore decency, real punishments, and AMERICAN values to this country.

It wont happen until the constitution is again respected and adhered to by the politicians instead of the dollar sign.

This will work.

Arm, at least, some of the teachers. Nobody needs to know which ones but, arm some of them. Sounds radical I know, but that's what it's coming to. Maybe we can figure out what the real problem is behind these shootings besides mental illness and we can return to a peaceful society and unarmed teachers but, it's like the little Dutch Boy and the hole in the dam. The finger in the hole stopped the leak but the dam still needs repair. Arming the teachers is a blow to our perception of a civilized society but it could be our finger in the dam for a while. If anyone else can come up with a better short term prevention I'd definitely vote for it if we didn't have to arm our teachers but I haven't heard anything yet.
This Will work too.

Gun control is using two hands with proper grip and trigger control with aimed shots

Whenever I hear "knee-jerk" talk of gun control, I think the first thing would be to place an extremely high tarriff on imports, if not a complete ban.

This may limit availabilty and provide jobs in America to supply the vacuum.

Just my thought....

Best,

Scott

Friend,

I hope that you are reminiscent of your actions as a "youth" and now
realize that your actions had no significant positive results.
In fact, I find serious sociological behavior and I hope that you will now focus such fervor
towards more positive applications.

As we all must do....

Best,

Scott

I don't think his actions were to create some "significant, positive results". I think he was going more for "immediate results". :)
