heading to our house in AVALON NJ this weekend...anyone hunting the shore points in S. Jersey...any luck down there? i'm thinking no because most there are vacation homes...why would anyone bring thier coins down the shore to dump...wouldn't they just dump them at home?

Never know what you may find. ;D
Go for it.

have a good un....
SHERMANVILLE

i intend to anyway just wanted to get a heads up on what i might find....don't want to get my hopes up for a big let down...its easy to get your hopes up where i am as even the cheapest house down there goes for at least 1.5 million

I don't have much luck with halves around Ocean City, NJ. I've never personally hunted in Atlantic City, but I heard it was pretty slim pickins' there too.

I would think you would get a lot of foreign coins from fat tourists. haha

Got nothing to lose but the time it takes to ask! Go for it & good luck.

"Jersey Shore - My life is your vacation" hahahaha

I tried AC before. It was terrible. Barely a single half to be had.
I went through Avalon, Stone Harbor and few others over the summer one day. Found a few. No big scores.

thanks for the replies guys...i got down a little late to hit any banks but scouted around the area to see what banks were aavailable....i'll give them a shot next time i'm down

Mark...i figured as much...who would bring thier coins down the shore to cash in....i would think they would do that BEFORE they headed to the shore....i would think they would have some in A.C. with the casinos but the last time i was there (Borgatta i think)...they were using slips of paper for payout at the cashier...probably that way with all the casinos down there.
i'm wondering...how about inland....i know there's 4 banks in Cape May Court House...or maybe further inland ...like on the other side of RT 9....i'm sure with the history of some of those little towns like Dennisville, someone had to have and dump some silver

Yeah, all the casinos are like that now.
Inland you can still find a little here and there. I hit all the banks in Cape May two months ago and three months before that. The first trip got a little, the second not much. I did all of Wildwood in September(only found 1 silver) but not since. Away from Rt9 there aren't many banks(until you get to Millville/Vineland/Bridgeton area where I live) and the ones there are far apart. I hit most of them when I did Cape May. Found out that a few banks aren't there anymore, like Cedarville.
Port Norris gave me a dream roll last spring but nothing since.
Went through Northfield, Somers Point and most of Ocean City today. Didn't get to Pleasantville or further north.
Two weeks ago we were in Bridgeton and went from there through Salem, Woodstown and Elmer.
I was thinking of trying the Surf City area sometime. I've never been there before.

Well heck, I live right there in Somers Point =P

Mark...sounds like you got pretty much the whole area covered...thanks for the info..you saved me from wasting alot of time and gas....i didn't think it would be as productive as a large urban area....i'm really surprized at AC with all that money moving through the area...you would think desperate gamblers would dump some stuff just to get to the tables.....have you tried dimes and other denominations....if so how did that work out?

Jack....my brother lives in Somers Point also ;D

No, I never tried any other denoms.
i thought the same thing about AC. That's why we tried it. Guess not.
i always find a few when I go through EHT and Hammonton every few months.
My brother lives in Ocean city and used to work in the casinos until around 2002. Whenever he worked in the coin bank he would buy all the silver he could afford. He mostly got silver dollars. He told me that they came across a LOT of the 40% halves but they threw them back as no one thought they were worth anything more than any other half.

Jack- I'll let ya know next time we're coming down.
