Black bears have received a lot of bad publicity. They are docile, few have attacked, and almost always because another animal was near, such as a dog. Locally we had the press report of a "bear attack". The bear chased a dog into a house. The owner was knocked over by the bear as it attempted to exit. Caution should be used around all wild animals, but Black Bears are not Grizzlies or polar bears.

How does that saying go......" Too close for comfort".....thanks for sharing..

An American Scientist was attacked here in Labrador by a polar bear just a few months ago. He was dragged out of his tent by his head and he said he could hear the bones snap in his neck. he thought he was a goner but he friends fired off some flares which frightened the bear. He survived. Here is his story.

There's an old saying about bears around here - if you're not sure what kind of bear you're dealing with, sneak up behind it and smack it on the rump. If the bear goes up a tree, it was a black bear. If you go up a tree, it was a brown bear.

If both you and the bear go up a tree...well, things just get weird.

Bears are quite territorial, and if you noticed it was constantly looking off into the woods, which would suggest that a larger bear was in the neighborhood.

A similar occurrence happened when I hunted with a couple friends up in Canada. The husband was in one tree and his wife was filming in an adjacent tree, and the bear decided to go up her tree. We later found out from the wife that it happened to be her time of the month and that could have been the reason for it climbing the tree. Bears are still wild animals, and they are predators, so you do have to be careful.

Geez! Any decent pistol and you couldn't miss at that range. Then you have a nice bearskin rug for the winter...

A friend of mine has an old farm in Spencers Island Nova Scotia. He has several hundred acres of blue berries planted, along with a huge garden. His wifes mom, Elsie, who was in her 90s was out in the garden picking something or other when Bob heard some yelling. He ran out the back door to check and there was Elsie, minus her glasses, yelling at a bear who was up on its hind legs about 15 feet away. Bob said he heard her yell " I don't care who you are, get out of my Garden ". Bob said he grabbed the shotgun and fired a couple in the air at which point the bear made a hasty retreat. When he asked Elsie what she was doing, she thought it was a person not a bear. She told him next time she would wear her glasses when she went to the garden.

The black bear referenced in the first video was a fairly young animals as they get much bigger than that. How did it take for the guy in the tree stand to change his clothes?

The first one with the black bear was like "oops sorry didn't know this stand was taken" the second one I would have soiled myself LOL

Looked to me like the bear in the first video was just curious
about what he could see up in the tree. Bears don't see well,
and odds are once he/she figured it out they were satisfied.

Hell, that close and I might have just reached out and scratched
him on the nose..lol.

The second bear (Grizzly) they should have known better. When
you see bear cubs (black or any variety) you GO THE OTHER WAY!
As soon as they saw those cubs they should have been paddling
towards the other side of the river (I would have). If she'd have
been really pissed she could have flipped that raft in a heartbeat,
and then laid out those 3 guys on the dinner table for her kids.

Pretty cool video. Hey, somethin doesn't seem right in that and that guy looks awfully familiar. I'm might be wrong but I think I've seen him in some other unprobable outdoor adventures.

wow what a video mama
thanks for posting

Very cool. I was charged by a black bear once. I heard this racket off to my side, so I bent down to get a better look through the underbrush only to see this black ball of fur coming at me. It burst into the little clearing I was standing in and sat down on its haunches like a big dog right in front of me. It was about 10 feet away and slightly up hill. We just stared at each other. It was 30 years ago but I will never forget those eyes. It was like looking at pure ferociousness and pure terror combined into one. After what seemed like an hour but was only 5 seconds I'm sure, I flinched a muscle and that bear took off like it was fired out of a cannon. Mind boggling how quick it was.
