I dug two buttons this morning. The back mark says Jacob Reeds sons Phila. The front is just a fancy P with a wreath around it. Can anyone help me with this one?
Sounds like a stock pattern "P" button, usually used on policemen's uniforms. Most major button companies offered them. Here's an example:
The Jacob Reed & Sons mark was used from the 1860's (almost all are postwar) until at least the early 1900's. So, the button's probably a little over 100 years old.
