Cardinals court as part of their mating ritual.

Pretty girl sets the trap ...

The young male tries to impress her by offering a gift ...

Quite a distinctive appearance those fellas have. Enjoy those walks, they disappear far too soon. I was amazed when I realized that different species hunt differently. For example, Robins will scour the ground patiently, watching for any movement, but a Blue Jay will walk a couple steps with the sun behind him then suddenly raise and hold his wing up in an effort to scare prey into moving. I've watched Mocking Birds do something similar.

Thank you! I sure enjoyed watching them that morning. Was kinda comical.

Be well my friend.

Great post lol

Thanks. Most of the pics I got were off a bit ... should have used a higher ISO which might have stopped the motion blurs. But I was able to save these pics and share the experience a little bit.

FWIW, anytime I'm going to be shooting birds or animals I preset
my D90 to ISO 400. It allows for the faster shutter speed needed
for moving critters, and sharper images as a result.

Good advice, and I sometimes go as high as 800 in overcast conditions as it was that day --- but when I saw what was going on, I had to go into the next room to grab my camera and didn't have time to adjust it if I was going to get any shots.

The graininess is because the light was so low, not because the ISO was too high.

Nice pictures Shadow !

Thank you!
