So I found a half dollar a week or so ago covered in grease... I searched the same area since it has thawed out a lot since then... I got a hell of a tone and dug down 5" to find this beauty!!!

No, the half was coated in grease and on other side of sidewalk from this one.

holy hell ! I can only imagine how that ended up in the ground since they never circulated at all. I'm betting you're one of a very very small handfull of people who have ever recovered one from the dirt if not the only one. I'm voting banner for that reason alone even though they aren't at all rare It's an extremely rare detecting find.

It doesn't look like it was in the ground very long... Although it was 5" down??? Does silver tarnish/change color a lot?

Now that is an awesome silver find! Congrats!

It depends on the type of ground and what chemicals are used on the lawn or ground or in the water.
Majority of silver comes out bright and shinny.

Take your self out the and search some more! GL. HH!

I think I finally cleaned up my front lawn. I can officially say there are NO tones left in my front lawn (as far as my f2 can read). Found 23 cents all clad and 3 rusty nails.
