Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

I went out to an amusement park that I hit for the first time saturday
with civil man. I got 2 cents, a '41 and a '54.

Then I got the mother signal,
a SOLID 92 no matter which way I hit it, 7 inches down, I was goin' in.
Halfway down a truck came barreling through the field right towards me.
A man jumped our and asked what I was doing. "Metal detecting" He asked
who I had permission from. I gave him the name of the lady. He says that
is his daughter but HE was the owner.
I told him that I was unaware that she was not the legal owner or I would
of contacted him before hunting.
He walks over and kickedd the plug back in the hole flinging mud all over me
and tells me to get the F&#@ off of his property.
Now, I'm a pretty big guy, so I stand up and He jumps in his truck and locks
the door. I swear I was just going to talk to him.
So I picked up my things and start walking. He drove next to me until I hit
the property line.
Now, I was trying to be civil, when he steps out of his truck and yells,
"Come back again and I'll kick your F@#$%*& AS$!" Well, nice or not,
I lost it. I took three quick steps and was on him before he could get back
in the truck. Like I said, I'm a big guy and this guy wasn't. So I'm staring
down at him and he is pinned against the truck and me (No touching
involved). "Now listen up, BUDDY." I said, "If you want to call the police,
we can settle this whole thing that way, because your daughter told me
that she was the owner and gave me permision. If you want to threaten
me, we can go that route too. Tell me right now and we'll finish it right now."
The man said, with a whiny crackle in his voice, "Let's just say my daughter
is to blaim and leave it at that. OK?"
I just walked away and left.
I am a true proponent of getting permissiion first, But what the heck are
we supposed to do in situations like this?????

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Sounds to me like you handled the situation beautifully. I guess there are people out there who are just not very nice. Merry Christmas!

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

I would have at least finished diggin' the plug ;D If he knew we were there the other day he should have come down then....Sound's like a real A-hole,He's kinda lucky he didn't end up in the creek,But I guess the only thing you could've done is what you did and left. You did nothing wrong but the guy didn't have to act like that either....even kicked your plug >:( Oh well...Talk to ya later Ty

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Well I guess I could say your a bigger man than me. Not to sure I would have handled it as well as that.
Oh well, nice two cents. :)

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

I know what you mean tymcmurray ! sounds like you tried to do the right things by asking someone and was given permission then this guy maybe he was the rightful owner but he didn't approach you the right way ;) Glad you put him the point on either calling the cops or settling it right there ! He sure didn't have to get shi@#y about it, guess he thought he needed his power and control fix >:( anyway congrats on the finds and keep asking permission and goodluck ;)

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

You handled it better than I would have.

Since he wasn't civil, and wanted to be confrontational, shows his ignorance, and his lack of respect. I'd also call the daughter back and find out what the scoop was.

Then, some day somewhere, I'd be glad to run into him again on neutral ground.

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

As far as I'm concerned you handled it properly and gave him your 2 cents worth. I would contact daughter to let her know the truth of the situation.

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Hey Tymcmurray you get my "Patience Of The Year !!" Award !!

The guy with the attitude Gets The "A-&%^?"%#H@le Of The Year !!" Award >:(

When you meantioned her name to him he should have calmed but he went to the next level ( makes me think she was abused as a child with a dad like him ) so I applaude you for being firm but in control !

Kicking mud on ya >:( >:( >:( >:(

Me...I'd have stuffed that plug down his throut and paid bail , but thats me with *^^%@#$@#Thead$

Have a Merry Christmas despit the altercation !

D.

P/S here's your trophy ! ;)

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Thanks you guys.
I appreciate the talk down.
I can't believe how mad I was.
I have lost it in the pas and I don't like hurting little people, even if they do
deserve it. Appreciate the humor in this,
Thanks again.

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

You did the right thing, nothing else you could have done.

I MD with my friend nuggetshooter sometimes. He's a big guy, couldn't be nicer, and people will give him crap but at the same location no one gives me trouble.

Sounds like that little dude has a big napolean complex. Be sure to send him a Christmas card! ;)

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Can you talk to the daughter and try to get this settled, and if you do, get it in writing from the daughter that you do have permission to hunt there, would that help?

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Thats what I would have done. Some people are just ignorant. He should have talked to his daughter that way for giving permission. Ron

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Seems like you handled the situation quite well...definitely got your 2 cents worth...
don't you just love this hobby!.... :)

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

You done good. I wish I had that type of control.
Merry Christmas. :)

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Wow sorry you had such a lousy experience. Some people are intent on going through this life misarable and sharing it with others.

But shake it off tonight, put down a couple of Egg Nogs, and I hope you have a great Christmas day.

Cheers.

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Hmmm......I might have handled it differently....might have had a new truck along with the two wheats!

jk

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

I would have to say he woulda pissed me off real good. you handled it very well. i ama illinois trooper and i would have had a real problem with that ol' boys attitude. seems like he tried to escalate the situation instead if use a little politeness and common courtesy. bottom line .... he is a moron.

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

Wow Ty! Sorry to hear about your hassle with that idiot. Next time send Civilman in to handle your light work. ;D

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

yea i think that i would have given him my 2 cents worth right in the nose.....you did real good ty..you should call the daughter and tell her that you would really like to hunt that place again and hope you get to just to see if he comes back...lol

Re: Honest Abe & my 2 cents worth

That has happened to me before--where someone will give me permission and then another family member will either tell me "No" outright or put pressure on the one that said "Yes" so that all hell breaks loose. Fortunately this has only happened twice in 15 years. Once I was gracious and apologized and left the property, and the other time I gave 'em hell before I left because they were cursing me. When someone tells me "Yes," I assume that they have the power to give that permission. If they don't own the property, they should say so up front. I totally sympathize--and I think this dude deserved to get an attitude check the way he was talking to you. It is sad that you lost a site--but really the site was never yours to hunt to begin with, it sounds. At least you got to hunt it a bit before the incident.

Regards,

Buckleboy
