Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

Hey Brad,
I use the second stages from my Zeagle regs. They are super high performance adjustable second stages meant to breathe easy at low pressure. I made a stainless fitting out of 1/2" stock (you can use brass) with 1/4 pipe threads at one end and 5/16-24 tapped hole at the other end with a chamfer for the o-ring. I then just screw the second stage hose on. The hoses I use are the 100' orange pliovac hose from Harbor Freight for just $12. Works great! I'll take a picture and post it if you like.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

Any low pressure regulator will do, and a high pressure regulator is just too hard to breath from, so stay with low pressure. Just visit your local dive shop they should have plenty to choose from.
Zeagle is one of the better manufactures, I use a Zeagle Ranger BC, and a Sherwood second stage regulator.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

Tom,
Thanks for the info, any idea which model they might be? Also, if I'm not mistaken standard oxygen fittings should have the same thread.

Thanks,
Brad

Zeagle ZX second stage model No. 320-110. I attended their equipment repair seminar. Here's their technical support web site: http://www.3oaks.com/home/jimfox.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

You should check Keene Engineering for the diving equipement gear. They also have hookah goodies.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

I've looked there also. I just have an issue with paying close to $300 each for a piece of hose and a second stage reg. I'm thinking there markup is a little on the high side.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

Salvor 6 has the right idea for the hose , I haven't done it personally but I have a fellow diver that uses those hoses for his MainDvr , Standby Dvr hoses & saved a bit of money. We actually used a Home Depot heavy duty extention cord for com wire. Worked great.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

Brad, there are just so many to choose from, and they come out with so many new models each year, that it is difficult to recommend one specific manufacture or model. As for the oxygen fittings, I believe that you are correct. Just as long as your not using breathing oxygen with your rig LOL.
I always keep a bottle of 100% breathing oxygen on hand for hangovers.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

I have used the Home Depot flourescent orange air hose for my tank hookah, and it works just like the Brownies stuff. No bad taste, doesnt kink-most important, and its bright so that you dont get run over by nuts, who dont know what a dive flag is. I used it for boat bottom cleaning, where I was just there for a little while. Otherwise I used my Brownies third lung which is the way to go. 3 hours on a 1/2 gallon of gas. And that tank rig has a regular SCUBA reg on it, since its a tank fed hookah. You definetly need a low pressure adjustable second stage reg for a hookah.

Re: Hookah Regs & hoses

heres a simple solution.a tank,a old reg,50-100 feet of 1/2 inch food grade tubing.
