The beach along the boat launch area at Anchor Point (probably other beaches too) has some gold bearing black sands if you want a panning challenge...minus 100 gold. Anchor River is a great salmon spawning river and has a steelhead run also. Acting on a tip from a local guide that an Alaskan Cousin knows, I caught my first and only steelhead a few miles inland there on a fly rod. 30 or so inches. Take fishing gear if you like to fish!
